Although Chase was younger than everyone expected, since it was a private college, it wasn't entirely surprising.
Chase's speech to the freshmen was refreshingly brief and to the point, unlike the long-winded speeches typical at most schools. He simply welcomed the new students, encouraged them to study hard during their three years at the college, and to become valuable members of society and the nation. Within just five minutes, his speech was over, and he swiftly announced the dismissal amidst applause and cheers from the students.
If there had been any girls at the school, they would have surely recorded his speech and shared it online, possibly earning Chase the title of the "handsomest principal."
"Now I see why the school is so student-friendly, the principal is a young man!"
"He didn't ramble on and on, finished in just a few minutes, definitely the fastest speech I've ever heard from a school leader!"
"I already like this principal!"
"The school is indeed great, no pointless rules, no prohibitions on having books on desks or trash in trash cans."
"Too bad there are no girls at the school!"
After the dismissal, the students dispersed in small groups, some heading to the cafeteria, others going out for food. They were all now aware of the unfortunate fact that the school was an all-boys institution and lamented their fate. New Star Arts College was great in every way, but why were there no girls?
The next day, military training began. Initially, the students were somewhat reluctant, not looking forward to being out in the hot sun. However, when the training started, over 600 students quickly realized how different it was at New Star Arts College.
Though they did the usual marching, foot drills, and shouting slogans, it was far from torturous. As the midday sun grew hotter, the military instructors, who were active-duty soldiers invited by Chase, announced a break. After a ten-minute rest, the students were taken to classrooms for theory lessons on national defense, first aid, individual combat techniques, and squad tactics.
Physical training, like marching and drills, was only done in the cooler parts of the day, for one to two hours each session, ensuring the students didn't feel overly tired. The college also provided watermelon and herbal cooling tea. Every lunchtime, students could get a large, seedless slice of watermelon for free from the cafeteria using their student cards.
On the fifth day of training, the students were taken by bus to a local military academy's shooting range. There, they saw various real guns and watched instructors disassemble and explain the weapons, their maintenance, and shooting techniques. Boys, who generally love thrilling experiences, were especially excited to handle the guns. Each student was allowed to fire five rounds from an old Type 56 rifle, an experience that left them all ecstatic.
On the last day of training, instead of the usual formation marches, singing, and farewell performances for the military instructors, New Star Arts College had another surprise. The students were taken to a large, outdoor paintball field in the suburbs. The entire field was reserved for the college. The students, divided by class, engaged in tactical battles under the guidance of their instructors, with the winning class receiving a month's worth of breakfast coupons for the cafeteria.
This reward, though not particularly valuable to students who could afford a private college, still motivated everyone due to the competitive team spirit it fostered. Despite using laser guns for safety instead of paintball, the students were thrilled to employ the tactics they had learned, like ambushes, counter-encirclements, and diversionary maneuvers.
Many students, even those who usually didn't use social media, couldn't resist sharing their excitement. Videos of their training experiences quickly spread, garnering admiration and envy from students at other colleges who were enduring traditional, grueling military training under the hot sun.
"Same military training, such a huge difference!"
"The food at your cafeteria is amazing, they even give out free watermelon. Our cafeteria charges twenty dollars for a simple chicken dish!"
"Damn, if I'd known, I would have chosen New Star Arts College. Clearly, this is a completely different school now!"
"I want to play paintball, not practice singing in the scorching sun. Worst part is, we can't even rest at night, I'm exhausted…"
Comments and likes flooded in, making the military training videos from New Star Arts College go viral. The videos reached many new college students, making them envious, especially those in Skysea City. They regretted not choosing New Star Arts College, realizing it would have been a more comfortable place to spend their college years.
Meanwhile, Howard, who had just achieved a heroic victory by taking down three well-off culinary students from Japan, was enjoying his break. He pulled out his phone and opened his senior year classmates' group chat, ready to boast.
"Hey everyone, how's your military training going?"
"Ours is quite different…"
"Paintball video 1.AVI"
"Paintball video 2.AVI"
"Paintball video 3.AVI"
The videos, not all taken by Howard but shared within the freshman group chat, showed various perspectives, even some first-person shots from phones attached to collars, making them incredibly exciting.
As Howard posted the videos, the chat went silent. Just as he was about to revel in his moment of triumph, a string of messages appeared.
"I admit your training is more fun, but your school has no girls…"
"I admit your training is more fun, but your school is all boys…"
"I admit your training is more fun, but you have to be careful in the showers…"
"I admit your training is more fun, but we have beautiful upperclassmen performing at tonight's welcome party…"
"I admit your training is more fun, but our class has more girls than boys…"
Howard's face turned green. He couldn't believe it. Could they say anything else?
