""An angel with the book of life wrote down a baby's birth. Then whispered as she closed the book too beautiful for earth." - unknown

-----------------------------------------------------

"Are you alright?" I asked.

"Ugh…Did someone get za number of zat truck zat ran over me?" Kurt groaned out.

"Yeah, don't worry. It's dead now." I said, steadying Kurt as he stood.

Dying really did a number on him, I thought. For a moment, I considered telling him he had technically died for twenty-nine seconds.

Mentally shaking that off as a bad idea, he had enough on his mind at the moment. I could see him scanning the room, noting the scattered remains of the Sentinels all around the cavern, along with the unconscious guards.

Taking several unsteady steps away from me, he moved over to where I had laid out all the children's bodies I had found, kneeling in front of the bodies he began saying the last rites.

There were thirteen bodies. Most of them still in their cells, killed before they could be rescued from the Sentinels. A couple I had found while I was moving through the facility. I gathered them all together and laid them out in neat rows.

I'd had to conjurer several white sheets to cover most of the bodies. Between the heavy weaponry, the Sentinels were packing and what, I had found deeper in the faculty none of the bodies were in any state to be seen…

Two of the children were still on the operating table cut open and just left there.

The doctors had run away in the middle of whatever they were doing when the alarm had sounded. Just letting them die. It had taken a tremendous amount of willpower not to go on a rampage to find who was responsible.

Finishing the last rites, Kurt turned to face me with tears in his eyes, struggling to meet mine with his tear-stained gaze.

"We threw everything at them, but nothing worked." He lamented, probably feeling guilty over not being able to save those who couldn't escape.

Walking over to him and putting my hand on his shoulder, I replied.

"Fortunately, they were prototypes and had a hard time absorbing my mystical energy. If that hadn't worked, my next plan was to teleport them into the sun."

It would have been a disaster if they could somehow learn to replicate my powers. Especially the ones I got from the infinity stones.

I mean, imagine a Sentinel powered by an infinity stone.

Fortunately, magic proved to be too much for them. And I managed to overload their absorption ability.

Though I made a mental note to learn as many new spells with different energy properties as I could, for when they managed to adapt to a particular energy type, like the Borg.

I had read way too many stories about these things to take them lightly.

I could only use the power of the infinity stones limited as it was because I was letting limbo act as the medium/filter for me.

I already had the space stone, and the reality stone hooked up to my runic array at Limbo's core. Circulating the power through the whole dimension on a constant loop, I could still only utilize a fraction of that power safely.

I got the idea from a Dc comic (One Above All, don't strike me dead.) It was when they explained how green lanterns powered their rings.

Apparently, the Guardians of The Universe built the central power battery as a reservoir of power to channel the emotional spectrum of willpower.

The central power battery then sent small amounts of that power to the lantern's own power batteries, which functioned as a conduit/filter to charge their rings.

Other than the psychological problems that would crop up from channeling only a single facet of the emotional spectrum, most organic life mortals' bodies would break down within minutes due to the immense strain of trying to channel such power without the Battery's acting as a filter.

It all boiled down to the scale of power.

The infinity stones were similar to the emotional spectrum in that aspect. They each represented a fundamental cosmic force.

So, in order to be able to tap into it safely, I had set up Limbo to act as a giant central power battery drawing small, measured amounts of power from the stones, which then bled off into Limbo. Through my mystical connection to dimension, I was able to utilize some of that power for my own use.

I had gained several valuable abilities. The space stone had given me the ability to teleport, create portals even without my sling ring as well as phasing, which was more challenging than it looked since I had to rely on manually matching my body's density and frequency to whatever material I wanted to phase through.

Most materials were made of composites, so it was a lot harder than it looked.

I could still do it, but it was hardly useful during combat.

The Reality stone's energy gave me the ability to temporarily transmute matter, which wasn't what I hoped for, but I couldn't exactly bitch about it.

Still, matter transmutation was a useful ability. Though it came with a few drawbacks. I'd found it was easier to turn lead into gold than it was to turn water into silver.

The closer the original material was to the intended product, the less energy and effort required to make the change.

Plus, once I stopped supplying energy to the transformation, the material would revert back to its original form.

That's why I had to buy a minute to analyze the Sentinels. Fortunately, I was familiar enough with Adamantium to change it without too much of a problem.

Allowing me to turn them into glass and shatter them before they could adapt to my powers. The transmuted glass turned back to its original state once I stopped supplying energy to it.

The Time stone, which was placed on the last pedestal in the core chamber gave me a couple of abilities.

The ability to rewind time up to 30 seconds no more. It worked on anything I touched, be it myself, an object, or even another person.

I also used it to create a spell to give me a degree of control over the flow of time within Limbo itself, so no more being gone for years while everyone else only lost a day if I didn't want to.

I had to carve another runic array surrounding the core to get that to work, but I was eventually successful.

I would have loved to keep the stone, but I had to give it back since Dr Strange would need it when he battles Dormammu.

I asked if I could keep it If I fought Dormammu instead, but all that got me was the Ancient One's disappointed glare, and a three-hour lecture on messing with absolute points in time, and the fact that I already had too much power, and could potentially break time. Getting too greedy was a path to ruin.

In the end, I surmised it wasn't worth it.

My head snapped to attention as I felt an enormous amount of psionic energy wash over me.

"Jean." I whispered.

I turned to Kurt. "I'm going after Jean and the rest of the team. I think something gone wrong."

"Then I'll come with you." He argued.

"You still aren't a hundred percent, I got here just in time to save you, but I didn't reverse all of the damage."

Yeah. I wasn't going to tell him If I was even one second later. He'd still have a hole in his chest. I personally find it impressive I managed to defeat the Sentinels and heal him all in time to save his skinny blue ass.

He looked he was about to argue, so I simply teleported away before he could say anything else.

Kurt grunted in frustration as Cypher disappeared. Looking again at the bodies laid out. Deciding to have a final look around to see if they missed anyone.

After a few minutes of searching, he managed to find a young girl who couldn't be more than ten years old. Barely breathing buried in the rubble, so he grabbed onto her hand. They both disappeared amidst smoke and the smell of brimstone.

Unfortunately, he failed to notice a small figure hidden beneath the passed-out forms of the security guards they had defeated.

One who inadvertently heard his conversation with Cypher. With a slight shift, the figure got out from under the guard he had been hiding under and checked to see if he was alone.

His lab coat was dirtied with blood, and his elbows were scuffed. He slowly stood up, dusting his lab coat, all whilst scanning the room.

His glasses were slightly dirty, so he took them off and started to clean them.

The figure was Dr Bolivar Trask.

After the mutant who called himself, Cypher had managed to destroy his Sentinels in less than thirty seconds, he didn't wait around to be finished off. If it were him, he wouldn't let him go.

Lamenting his beautiful creations that he had designed to exterminate those abominations.

Turned into scrap metal. He was upset, of course, all that hard work wasted… but it wasn't all for naught. After all, failure was just part of the scientific process. So, he would just have to go back to the drawing board.

"So, magic… " He said with a thoughtful look on his face, as he quickly made his was to a secure exit.
