ramen

Shisui's POV

I entered the Ichiraku Ramen shop and, seeing it empty, chose a seat on the left side of the room. The shopkeeper, a familiar face, greeted me with a smile. "One special ramen, as usual," I said. He nodded in acknowledgment and went to prepare my order.

As I settled into my seat, expecting a quiet meal, the door jingled open and a girl walked in. She wore a sleeveless top, and her spiky hair matched the purple color of her outfit. I took a quick glance and recognized her immediately. "Anko Mitarashi," I muttered under my breath.

Anko, a student of Orochimaru, had yet to defect. Her cheerful demeanor seemed oddly out of place given her circumstances. Once Orochimaru defected, she would likely face severe harassment and blame from the village. I wondered if she was prepared for the hardships ahead.

Anko's talent was undeniable. "She's already passed her Chunin exams," I noted silently. Orochimaru must have developed an attachment to her, or else he would have had no reason to leave her alive. I recalled him asking her to join him, but she had refused, remaining loyal to the village.

I considered the age difference between us. She's only two years older than me. She's three years younger than Kakashi's group, making me five years younger than Kakashi himself. I remembered Itachi, who is four years younger than me. "Itachi's still in the academy," I thought. If future remains same as original story he will graduate at age seven, mean next year. Fugaku, that psycho, had taken him into battle at age four. "How does someone cope with that kind of trauma so young?" I wondered.

I glanced over at Anko once more. She was enjoying her meal, seemingly oblivious to my presence. I quickly averted my gaze, not wanting to attract any attention. It would be unwise to show interest, considering her association with Orochimaru and the potential implications with Hiruzen. Any sign of interest might lead others to suspect ulterior motives, possibly even aspirations to become Hokage, which could attract unwanted scrutiny.

After finishing my meal and paying the bill, I stood up and approached the counter. "Thanks for the meal," I said to the shopkeeper. He smiled and waved me off as I made my way out. As I walked back home, my thoughts were consumed by the intricate web of relationships and politics that shape our world.

Hokage Office

Hiruzen Sarutobi sat behind his desk, his face etched with fatigue that belied his status as the strongest Hokage. The room, felt colder than usual. The Team 5 leader, Hana, knelt respectfully before him, a symbol of the hierarchy and tradition that Hiruzen himself had upheld throughout his career. "Hana, I need a detailed report on the recent mission," Hiruzen said, his tone betraying a mixture of weariness and authority.

Hana straightened, her expression serious. "Sir, our mission was a C-rank assignment to handle the bandits around Fuyu Forest. We confronted 14 bandits, led by a Chunin who appeared to be about 19 or 20 years old. Despite his lack of a headband, which would have confirmed his identity, his fighting style indicated extensive training and experience. He was proficient in Earth Style jutsu. We've submitted his body ."

Hiruzen nodded, his gaze distant as if lost in thought. "And how did the team perform?"

Hana continued, "Jin Si and Fu Hara have made notable progress, but their foundational skills are still developing. They are expected to need about a year to reach Chunin level. They are focused on improving their chakra control, which is crucial for their advancement. Uchiha Shisui, however, has already achieved Chunin standard. His performance has been exceptional. While the team's coordination in battle has improved, their interactions outside missions are minimal. Shisui, in particular, has become increasingly isolated since both jin and fu lost their parents a year ago during the attack."

Hiruzen leaned back in his chair, a sigh escaping his lips. "Is there any additional information about their current state or needs?"

Hana hesitated, her gaze steady. "There is a concern regarding Shisui's isolation. It's affecting his morale and could undermine both his performance and the team's dynamics. This issue needs addressing before it escalates."

Hiruzen's expression hardened slightly, a flicker of something unreadable crossing his face. "Thank you, Hana. We need to keep a close eye on their development and provide support as necessary. Ensure this information is relayed to the relevant departments."

As Hana departed, Hiruzen remained seated, the burdens of his office pressing heavily on him. His thoughts drifted to the broader implications of the situation. The Nine-Tails attack had wrought devastation on the village. The loss of Naruto's parents, the death of the village's new Hokage, and countless other families had left him with a profound sense of grief and guilt. The memory of his wife's death was a sharp, painful reminder of the cost of his position.

Yet beneath this surface of melancholy lay a darker reality. Hiruzen knew the Uchiha clan's grievances were valid, but he played a part in the intricate dance of politics and power. The village's policies and decisions, often cloaked in the guise of maintaining order, concealed a web of hypocrisy and manipulation. While publicly championing unity and fairness, Hiruzen privately endorsed measures that suppressed dissent and maintained control.

The reports on his desk revealed a troubling picture. The Uchiha, long marginalized and distrusted, faced ongoing surveillance. Their discontent simmered under the surface, exacerbated by the Hokage's own policies.

A decision had to be made. "Call the elders immediately," he instructed, his voice firm despite the internal conflict. His hypocrisy was evident in the way he wielded power—publicly upholding the principles of justice while privately manipulating circumstances to maintain his control. He had often used the Uchiha as a scapegoat for broader issues, all the while aware that his own policies and actions contributed to the very problems he sought to manage.

A flash of movement passed by the window as an ANBU member went to relay the Hokage's command. Hiruzen stood, looking out over the village with a mixture of regret and resolve. The village's façade of peace and prosperity masked a reality riddled with political intrigue and ethical compromise.

As he watched the bustling streets below, he thought, "Tobirama-sensei, the burden of leadership is heavy, and the path I walk is fraught with contradictions. I must ensure the Uchiha are kept in check, even as I acknowledge the role my own decisions have played in their discontent. The stability of the village depends on my ability to navigate this intricate web of politics, even as I struggle with the moral implications of my actions. I will maintain the appearance of order and safety, even as I grapple with the corruption that underpins our society."

Hiruzen's thoughts were a storm of self-justification and regret. He understood the need for political maneuvering but was increasingly haunted by the cost of his actions. The village's safety and stability were paramount, yet the darkness of his own decisions cast long shadows over his leadership.
