Staying by her side

The warden's sudden knock on the door shattered the comforting silence between Victor and Eve.

Victor's gaze, which had been locked on Eve's weary form, shifted to the door, his expression hardening slightly as the warden's voice called out from the other side.

"Visiting hours are over, Mr. Osbourne. You need to leave the girls' dormitory now."

Victor nodded, though a flicker of annoyance crossed his features. He glanced back at Eve, who looked up at him with tired eyes that held a hint of despair. She seemed like a lost puppy, her expression silently pleading for him to stay.

Victor moved closer to her, his voice low and gentle as he whispered, "I'll be back soon, I promise."

He squeezed her hand one last time before releasing it, the warmth of his touch lingering as he turned toward the door. But before he opened the door he unlocked the locks of one of the windows.
