Chapter (Friendship)

Granny, I needed to tell you what troubles my heart, Since I lost my Mum, I find it hard to correlate with people. I mean I don't have any friends to share my burden or ideal with. Is that all Blossom? Yes, I answered, you know what my daughter? No, I replied again.

Blossom that's why I said you are special and gifted, I even have that thought I was about to give rise to the issues before you did. if I may ask Blossom what do you understand by the word friends or friendship?

Well, for the best of my sagacity, friends are the people you share or relate ideals with, they are people who can understand your emotions when you are hurt or in pain.

Granny said well you are right to some extent, But you know what Blossom? Not all friends are permitted to stay in your life, Some are just passed by. Not all companions are friends, Some are good while some are terrible. I was confused by the statement of grandma "some are good while many are terrible" I try to question her.

Grandma, I don't understand why you said so? Okay, I know you won't understand Blossom, what I mean is that some friends can take you to your destiny while many will demolish that same destiny. Many people have dreams and destinies after telling their friends, The good ones will help them build while the wicked ones will destroy them. Hmmm...but granny, I haven't seen anybody that has ever complained to me that their friend destroys their destiny? Granny said Blossom you are still an infant we have seen things that you can not discern even if it means you claiming a tree or the highest hill.

I will like you to associate with people, not just humanity but good ones who will help you to build your future.

Nevertheless, Granny how do you expect me to know the one that is good or bad? That's a good question Blossom I was even expecting you to ask me how? Which you did.

Let me tell you, Blossom, you have to watch their characters and attitude. You need to study them very adequately to see if they are nice or not. But some might be a pretender oh....granny screamed loud, as she concluded by saying " Blossom you have to choose your friends and never authorize them to choose you" because we commonly use a parable "Show me your friends and I will tell you who you are".... I promptly reply sweet granny No, I disagree with that parable, To me that parable should be corrected. Why granny asked?

As I responded, my dad might be a thief but that does not make me a thief. I might even decide not to follow in my father's footsteps and design my life on how it will look like. It's just a matter of one's decision.

Granny was confused and asked me Blossom we are not talking about a father in this instance but rather a friend. I reply granny they are both the same be it father or friend because your father can also be your friend.

You won't understand Blossom, your Friend Might be a smoker.... grandma ends the conversation, and said let me tell you a story of three friends. .... I reply carryon, as I position myself well to listen.

Granny continues, there live three friends two were thieves and smokers while the other was not but all stayed together in the same apartment. On one faithful afternoon, the smoker told the other friends and said "come let go and drink, you know the operation of last night was easy we need to watch our head" but the other one who was not among their crime said to them, I instruct you both not to go out last night but you guys insisted to go. No problem I have tried my possible best oh..oh... Heaven knows. As the other two friends shut him up and said, come on Adekule God knows we are doing it to survive. Will you come with us and have a drink? He said NO but they both insisted and said, Stop behaving like a baby Nah.....and come with us to chill with the big boys, Adekule insisted on one condition, what condition did they both ask? You guys should promise me that you won't thief again!! They both responded we pledge last night will be the last time we go out to thief. And the three of them agreed to go out to have a drink.

When they got to the spot where they were about to drink, some policemen surrounded them and said you guys are under detention for robbery. Adekule was trying to tell the policemen that he was not among them, But one of his friends insisted that he was among them while the other one was attempting to defend him. One of them called spider by name said to Adekule, you said you are not among but anytime we go for an operation don't you spend the money with us?

Adekule answered how? Your house rent, food, cloths who Dey provide them? The other guy said to the officers Adekule is not among.....but the police insisted to take Adekule with them to the station because he was caught with them.

Adekule cried out but nobody to rescue him, he was arrested with them and Jail for three years with hard labor. Granny concluded the story and I reply what a wicked world as tears roll down my cheeks. Granny responded that's why I said some friends are good while many are bad.

Granny I don't think I want to make friends again oh oh... am afraid that they might hurt me just the way they hurt Adekule? Granny replied...you see one thing Blossom you don't have to be afraid just pray to God when you want to make friends, that God should direct the good ones that will build your life and make you see your worth. Just follow the instructions I gave you earlier " choose your friends and don't allow them choose you" thank you very much granny. May God grant you long life... Granny reply capital letter AMEN. We both burst into laughter as granny said goodnight. Which I responded, but before I go to my room I keep on thinking about those boys most especially Adekule the innocent one.

well, God knows why I confided in myself, I will not make such decisions that will affect my life. I prayed to God that night and sleep off...
