I missed you

"What I mean is that you seem to have lost sight of your goal. You know, Mom told me something once. Actually it was the both of us." Alina said as she looked out of the window.

"Whenever you feel like you can't go on...." Alina began.

"Remember why you started." Both she and Alex finished together.

Alex smiled as he said, "I missed you Alina."

Alina chuckled, "I missed you too. It was kind of boring, not having an ass to best everyday."

Alex smiled and turned silent.

Alina was also silent for a few minutes before she sighed. She got up and sat down beside Alex on the bed. "Talk to me Alex." she said.

"Huh?" Alex asked, looking up.

Alina: "I might be a bit scary, but I am your sister. Your only family." "Though I'm sure there will be another addition to our family soon enough." Alina added with a smile.

Alex sighed and shook his head, "I'm gonna die Alina."

Alina held his face in her hands, "No. You're not gonna die. The doctors will be able to do something. You've not been ill for that long."

Even though she said this, her voice was very unconvincing.

Alex put his hands on top of her's and said, "You know everything about mom's disease. How long have I got to live."

Alina retracted her hands and looked away from her brother's pale face.

"Alina?" Alex asked in a small voice.

"I don't know. I don't know okay!!" Alina snapped.

"Your disease is progressing much faster than mom's. Hadum told me you started showing symptoms just a month ago. Mom was this I'll an year after she started showing symptoms." Alina continued.

Alex held Alina's head and turned it. Though his hand had no power, Alina didn't resist and looked into his eyes. "How long did mom live after that?" he asked.

Alina said nothing and averted her eyes.

"Alina?" Alex asked again.

"Four years." Alina mumbled in a small voice.

Alex sighed as he let go of Alina's face, "Four months. Not bad. At least I'll get to spend the last of my life with people I love."

"Don't talk like that." Alina said and her voice cracked.

Alex put an arm around her little sister and said, "Okay. We won't talk about this. You want to know why I've been so nice to you the whole day today?"

"You want something." Alina said, smiling through her tears.

"Yeah." Alex chuckled, "And I'm scared that you're gonna kill me if I do ask it."

Alina rolled her eyes with a smile, "What? Don't tell me you want me to take your place?"

Alex: "..."

Alina's eyes widened as she stared at Alex's shocked face. "OH MY GOD!!! YOU WANT ME TO TAKE YOUR PLACE!!!!!" Alina shrieked and got up.

"Alina. Alina dear. Let's not wake up the neighborhood." Alex said as he tried to calm down Alina.

But Alina shook her head and took two steps back. "Alina....."Alex stood up to say something, but the rest of his sentence was drowned as he stumbled and was about to fall.

Alina with her quick reflexes caught him and mumbled, "Why! You want your whole family to end up dead?"

Alex said nothing as Alina helped him sit back down.
