53 Chapter 2.5

Throughout the month he was gone, someone was trying to get into contact with him While Orion was occupied with his hybrids and adapting to vampire life, and trying to find a place to stash the black oak safely he had, even to acknowledge the other party attempting to reach out to him.

He had received a few threats from the people trying to reach out, but he paid them no mind what they could do to him.

As Freya set aside her grimoires and approached Orion, she leaned in and kissed him unexpectedly. Surprised but not hesitating, Orion kissed her back, embracing the moment.

After the kiss, Orion looked at her with a playful curiosity. "What was that for?" he asked with a smile.

Her eyes reflecting a mix of seriousness and affection, Freya replied, "Do I need a reason?"

Orion smiled and continued to kiss Freya, moving to her neck, which made her moan softly. He whispered, "Should we go to the bedroom?" Freya nodded in agreement. Quickly, Orion vamped her to the bedroom, gently placing her on the bed and taking off his shirt.

Orion resumed kissing Freya passionately and carefully removed her shirt. As they continued, he unclasped her bra. Looking into her eyes, he asked gently, "Tell me what you want."

" you," Freya whispered; Orion smirked as he started to rub her breasts, getting a few sharps, gasps, and moans.

Orion was awakened from his sleep by a sharp knock on the door, followed by Freya's clearly annoyed voice. A soft chuckle left Orion as he quickly went down the stairs and opened the door. In front of him was a mysterious box on the ground, giving off a strong smell of blood that immediately caught his attention.

Intrigued, Orion picked up the box and discovered a securely attached note. With a sense of curiosity, he untied the letter and unfolded it. Upon opening the box, a picture slid out, delicately landing on the floor. Orion, puzzled, retrieved the image and was met with a shocking sight – his grams, with her heart brutally torn out. A surge of panic gripped him, and his eyes momentarily glowed with an unsettling shade of purple.

Reading the accompanying note, Orion's voice trembled as he spoke, "Hello, Tribrid. Invincible as you may be, your family isn't. You should have done a better job at protecting your grams. The wolves and vamps you had guarding her were so easy to kill. Those closest to you will pay the price. Consider this a warning. The balance is shifting, and your tribrid status won't save you; your grams were just the beginning. Watch as everything you hold dear crumbles before you. The game has just begun, Orion."

As he gingerly opened the box, the painful truth unfolded before Orion's eyes — the heart within belonged to his grams. A visceral gasp caught in his throat, and he couldn't contain the overwhelming wave of sorrow that washed over him. In an involuntary reaction to the heart-wrenching sight, a sob escaped from the depths of his being, echoing through the room.

Freya's quick footsteps echoed down the staircase as she hurried to Orion. The distress in Orion's sobs drew her concern, and worry showed on her face.

"Darling, what happened?" Freya asked, her voice filled with both concern and urgency. She reached Orion's side, quickly scanning the room before her gaze settled on the box that contained the heart. She then noticed the image in Orion's hands. Silently reading the note, her expression changed from worry to a combination of anger and determination.

"Orion, are you okay?" Freya asked, uncertain about how to comfort him.

---------------------------

( Orion's POV)

She's gone. Grams is dead. I tried desperately to save her, but look at her now. Dead. It's my fault. My fault that she's gone. They, whoever they were, were trying to send me a message.

I can't escape the guilt gnawing at my insides, the haunting realization that her death is on my hands. I fought with everything I had to protect her, but it wasn't enough. The image of her lifeless body, that heart in the box, serves as a cruel testament to my failure.

The note's chilling words echo in my mind, a reminder of the darkness closing in. "The game has just begun," it said. I clench my fists, teeth gritted, as anger and grief intertwine within me. Whoever orchestrated this has not only taken Grams from me but has dragged my entire world into a shadowy abyss.

Freya's hand on my shoulder offered comfort, but I couldn't bear to stay. I vamped over to the witch's house, driven by an urgent need for answers. As I arrived, an excruciating pain gripped my head— The bitches were trying to keep me out of the house. I used my control over them to stop them and go inot the place.

"Is she here? Is my grams here?" I demanded, the urgency evident in my voice. No one materialized, leaving me in tense silence. After what felt like an eternity, Gram's finally appeared before me.

"Hey, baby. How are you doing?" she greeted me casually. I stared at her in disbelief, the weight of my grief and frustration pressing down on me.

"That's all you say?" I retorted,

"Your dead, grams. I can't... I can't," I choked out, tears streaming down my cheeks. The pain was unbearable, and my magic spiraled out of control, causing the entire house to quake.

"Stop it, Orion!" she pleaded, her voice slicing through the turmoil. "My death was destined. You intervened. Though it was meant for the tomb, my end was inevitable."

Orion looked at her, disbelief etched on his face. "How could you possibly know that?" he asked, shaken.

She replied with a cryptic tone, "Some truths are written in the stars, beyond our control or understanding."

"Where's Bonnie? She was with you," I asked, my voice trembling with a mix of desperation and concern.

"Don't tell me she's dead. You died; I can't handle it," Orion pleaded, his eyes ablaze with their purple hue. Grams remained silent, her expression holding a weight of unspoken truths.

"Please, I need an answer," I urged, my voice laced with desperation. Despite my persistent questioning, she remained silent. Her lack of response was telling in itself. Finally, she spoke, "She's still alive, but only for now."

Orion asked angrily, "Who killed you?". Sheila spoke up with a sad look in her eye and said, "They took out the vampires and wolves you dispatched to protect us, got a hold of us, and threw us into this dark room with meager scraps for food. The interrogations followed, centered around you. We remained silent, and that only fueled their frustration. They aimed to send you a message, Triad. That's when I noticed they had the support of a powerful witch who tightly bound our magic. Abby was there I felt her magic. She was one of the witches that helped bind our magic."

I fell to the ground, overwhelmed by intense feelings of sadness and anger. It felt like being consumed; I could feel it in the corner of my mind, the switch to turn it off, to shut out all the emotion, so I flipped it.

Suddenly, I felt relieved, as if a burden had been lifted. The anger and sadness disappeared, leaving me calm and clear-headed. I smirked and thought to myself, "Let the games begin."
