The Differences(part 1)

Late Fall, 1001 A.D. Unknown Continent

On the shore of what would, in a few hundred years, be called Virginia, the figure of a large beast could be seen, its head stretching towards the sky. A long howl escaped its mouth, echoing even tens of kilometers away.

All werewolves in the nearby area turned their heads to the east with awe, feeling a mix of anger and sadness washing over them. All animals in the area hid or ran away hastily, fleeing the apex predator that proclaimed its presence.

Observing the ship disappearing into the horizon, the gigantic black wolf turned on its steps. With a few sniffs of the air, it shot forward into the endless dark forest, seamlessly disappearing into the shadows.

Wolves and werewolves alike, when left alone, would always find their way back to their pack, mostly by tracking their scent or seeking familiar locations.

Isaac, who resisted giving in to his instinctual hunger for blood, resolved to embrace his other instinct—essentially becoming 'the wolf' in all manners. Left alone in the enemy territory of another pack, he ran back to the "pack" he was connected to, only for them to flee into the sea, beyond his reach.

Following that, he moved to the next best thing—the place where he had lived all his life.

In less than an hour, the wolf reached the small village, the strong smell of blood making its way to its nostrils. It wasn't originating from just one spot but all around it. Sniffing the ground, it could discern the different origins of the smell.

Like lines pointing toward a certain spot, the wolf sensed dozens of bodies spread in all directions, each signaled by the unique smell of blood. However, it immediately turned its head toward a specific location. One of the other scents among those surrounding him was comparable to that of the blood, and surprisingly, it was a familiar one.

A moment later, the wolf stood in front of one of the wooden houses in the village. It was the house of the chief, the alpha of Isaac's original pack. Moving slowly, the wolf neared the small house, pushing the door with its head. The house was small, with only a single fur-made rug spread over the ground. At the center of it, lying in a pool of blood, was the headless body of a man.

But the wolf didn't even give it a second look as its eyes immediately looked above, where a crouching man in his late 50s stood on a wooden supportive beam parallel to the ground. The man frowned, his right hand gripping tightly onto the sword that hung.

"It's not the full moon... How can this be?" The man muttered, clear shock visible on his face. But obviously no answer came, the wolf only looked at the man with curious eyes, intrigued by the man's unique scent.

"Never mind, I don't care... I will just ki—" The man suddenly stopped talking. His instincts, sharpened by countless fights, alerted him that he was in immediate danger.

Jumping down, he moved three meters back in a single burst of speed. Just where he stood, the huge wolf's mouth closed, missing him by only a second. Shocked at the wolf's incredible speed that his eyes couldn't even comprehend, the man drew his sword, placing it right at his body center.

The wolf, having sensed the killing intent aimed towards it, sought to finish the fight in one shot. However, the man reacted swiftly, and the attack only caught air. Glaring at the man with curious eyes, the wolf sniffed a few more times, turning its head to sense others getting closer.

Taking advantage of the wolf's beastly actions, the man slashed his sword forward, aiming towards its neck. A cracking sound followed as the blade met with the wolf's turning head, its teeth snapping it in two with incredible ease.

Continuing its movement, the wolf's front claws slashed at the outstretched hand of the man, severing it at the man's upper arm and sending it flying across the room.

Feeling the incredible pain, the man gritted his teeth, doing his best to not scream. He did the one thing he swore never to do—he ran. Pulling every bit of strength he could master, the man fled out of the house, the enraged wolf following him in an incredible pace.

Seeing that the wolf was about to catch up, the man looked around with bloodshot eyes. Making a momentary decision, he turned towards the villagers coming towards the house. The wolf, right behind him, tried to take the opportunity of the man making a sudden turn and pounced with an open mouth. However, when it closed, it wasn't the older man that it caught, but someone else.

Chewing the meat, blood ran down the wolf's throat. As if something awakened inside it, the wolf's formerly green eyes turned blood red. It stopped in place, relishing the taste of the liquid rolling down its throat. Sitting down on the ground suddenly, it slowly devoured every last bit of the liquid it could get.

The other men who came along with their now-dead tribesman stood in place, as if their legs froze. They watched as the wolf killed them one by one, enjoying its meal slowly. Until it finished the last bit of blood and lied down on his side, falling asleep. Finally, its figure getting reformed, it was replaced by the naked body of Isaac, who slept soundly as if nothing had just happened.

Meanwhile, a few kilometers away, the now one handed man, never stopped for even a second to see if his plan worked, heading with incredible speed towards the shore, where he hid his ship.

"Niklaus!!!" Finding that it was missing, he roared into the sky. Never stopping for even a second, that thing he just saw, was no simple werewolf. those he could kill with his expertise and strength with ease. No, this was no werewolf... this was a true monster...

He traveled a few hundred meters to the south, running across another ship, probably owned by one of the other families that came with them to the 'new world.' Without thinking twice, he used all his strength to get it to the water before sailing away, never looking back.

By now, his hand had already 'healed.' To his surprise and horror, all that was left of it was the upper part of his shoulder, which had closed entirely. The wounds inflected by the wolf didn't heal, and another realization followed as he watched the sky, holding back a few tears... He had weeks of travel in open sea ahead... And with his hand, he also lost his ring...

The following day, the sun began its ascent into the sky. Birds in the tribal area started chirping in a cacophony of sounds, slowly awakening the remaining villagers who the man hadn't had time to kill before the encounter with wolf Isaac.

The light spread gradually, passing over the treetops and finally reaching the center of the village where Isaac lay, soundly asleep in his birthday suit. The moment the light touched his skin, he jolted awake, leaping into the shadow of a nearby supply shed.

Looking at his hand, the burn mark was already healing, but the feeling of pain still lingered for a few moments. Surprisingly, as he looked around, the headache he experienced just yesterday didn't seem to reappear.

The memories he had tried so hard to organize seemed to fall into place by themselves. Unbeknownst to him, while the wolf took over, he unconsciously organized the memories, and the more memories he organized, the easier the rest of the puzzle became.

With the blood propelling him into overdrive, he managed to organize almost all of them, and the few left fell into place automatically, allowing him to think clearly for the first time in a while. And the first thing that came to his mind was...

'Aren't I supposed to be a hybrid?! Why am I burnt by the sun?' As far as he remembered, in "The Vampire Diaries," hybrids had the strength of both species and only some of their weaknesses. And the hybrids of a werewolf and a vampire didn't have immunity to all weaknesses but one of each...

They don't burn in the sun, like vampires and unlike the werewolves they can change at will.

Meanwhile, he who was a werewolf and drank the wine that contained the spell of immortality, should have been just the same... But he was still burned by the sun... so maybe he wasn't a wolf anymore... But the moment the thought crossed his mind, the memories of last night resurfaced, causing Isaac's stomach to turn at the sight of what the wolf him did.

Sitting down, he closed his eyes and took in a few breaths, calming his spinning head. Just then, he heard the sound of nearing footsteps as one of the villagers ran towards his direction, probably noticing the bodies.

Making a quick decision, Isaac ran at the highest speed he could into the house of the village chief. Getting a few burns on the way, he still arrived in less than two seconds. Looking around, a few splashes of blood stained the walls.

At the center of the house, lying with a small pool of blood coming out of where his head used to be, he saw the headless corpse of the village chief. Seeing that his clothes were relatively clean, Isaac immediately stripped him, wearing the pants. However, he had to give up on the shirt, as it was stained around the neck.

Thinking for a few moments, he was about to make another run for it, moving into the dense forest where he would be hidden by the shadows. When a reflected ray of light suddenly hit him in the face, causing him to move back a few steps.

Looking down at the floor, right under a small window, was the hand of the man that the wolf version of him fought last night. On its pinky was the thing that reflected the light—a golden ring with a round blue rock placed at its center.

The moment he saw it, a big smile spread on Isaac's lips. He recognized the owner of the ring—Mikael. And as such, he also knew what the ring was—a daylight ring!

Picking up the hand with a slight sense of disgust, Isaac, easily took of the ring, placing it on the 4th finger of his right hand. The moment he put it on, he could sense a sort of field around him, which he assumed blocked the UV radiation, coming from the sun. Sending his hand through the window, he could feel the sun's warmth on his skin, and it didn't burn like before.

Letting out a sigh, Isaac smiled, as he left the house, heading towards woods, he headed to his place, wanting to grab a clean shirt. Taking the chance to check his abilities, Isaac started running towards his house at full speed, moving at a speed comparable to that of a car on a highway. He arrived almost instantly to his small cabin that lied in the woods just outside the village.

And entered the house, moving towards the bed where a clean gray linen shirt was placed, as he left it, just a few week ago. Putting on the shirt, he left the house, making his way back into the woods, when it suddenly hit him...He should have a nephew who was still alive and well and yet he could still enter... He wasn't invited in!

As I wrote in the synopsis, and the last chap, this is just the result of a writing blockage regarding other stories, I don't know if I will ever write more than the five chapters, well that is unless I see extremely positive reviews.

At least for now I enjoy writing it...

I will not answer any questions regarding where the story is going behind that, as it not only bothers me, but I also don't want to tell you something that isn't decided yet. I might change my mind regarding anything unless I said otherwise.

If you want, in the future, you can give me other ideas regarding story name, things the MC might choose to learn or do in the following thousand years, and anything more you would like to share. I read everything though I will only use what I like...

Anyway, if you like this story, let me know, and I will take it into consideration when I have time to write in the future, and if you have any trouble understanding something I'm more than willing to answer questions regarding the existing plot.

I'm currently debating how the story vibe should be as I continue...Help me decide...

Would you rather the story follow a list of events until it get to the actual TVD timeline, or jump to the TVD timeline and have flashbacks too show Isaac's experiences as if they were in the past...

I'm still debating, but as of right now, I'm thinking to just go with time skips and fill the blanks with flashbacks in the future...

I feel like flashbacks wouldn't allow romance development, and I also have a few important things i want to implement into the story that will change the course of the original plot by a lot... well, I'm searching for convincing arguments that might convince me otherwise... As I had never really done a story with flashbacks as a main part of the story, but as of right now this is not gonna be the story where I do it...
