04. The strange cloth

Screech could be heard from the creatures that were passing through the street as she took out her mirror and sent the striking light straight through the group of zombies that were running through the shadows. The few people could see a woman holding a mirror and sending strikes of light towards the ground.

They realized her idea and suddenly more and more people started doing the same.

Maria balanced her mirror and put at certain spot motion them to make a clear line towards the ground so they could stop the flow. They realized that and suddenly the flow of zombies started going the other way, completely flabbergasting many people.

On another side of the street, the same thing was set up and few bit bolder started throwing stuff down at the ground making a huge noise, but all that happened is that zombies got a bit faster and tried to run around it. They went to the side streets and realized that their way was cut off as well and started growling louder and louder while more and more zombies arrived. As they tried to avoid direct light, they got burried under the other feet.

As zombies had no sense of compassion they steped on the zombies that by now fell to the ground and buried them under their feet, smashing them completely. As more and more zombies appeared Maria felt scared and wave them to hide. No one knows how long this shield could stop the zombies, so everyone pulled back inside.

She pointed out how they could fight the creatures, now she just wanted to see the fun. The food that was on table was already cold and she just brought it in and was about to warm it up, but changed her decision. With heavy heart she threw all the food inside the can and just cooked a new meal.

With a full belly she put headphones on and turned the laptop on to listen to the news. Of course that no news could be seen. Only play sound screen was shown.

Looking for radio station she found few working. While most of them just played preprogrammed music, only one was active.

"OK people. From today on we will try to send news from here on. My name is Max and when I'm not online you will hear music online. Now about news..."

"...so, the more people work together the better. If we pull most of zombies with noise to the island and blow the bridge they will be at least contained there for a little while so we can raid stores and gather food..."

They spoke about planting ideas, raiding ideas and even let few callers call them as lines were still working just fine.

...So who am I speaking this time?"

''Hi. We live in the Second Alley downtown. Someone showed us something interesting. It seems zombies are afraid of direct sun. So we tried it out and blocked street by just adding whole line of mirrors shining towards the ground. My idea is to gathers them inside the big stadium and instead wasting bullets just let sun shine upon them."

The great stadium had no shades and was for open competitions meant. Maria saw once the great stadium and nodded.

"But when to do it as they hide in shadows?"

"" Night would be best time. Just before down. Anyone has the flying toys. Just make the zombies follow the sound and everything will be easier."

Maria rolled her eyes. But it will show the owners position as well. The sound in early morning reverberates the most, to that point that eben smallest sound is quite loud.

Luckily they knew that as well but found few that had bunch of guts. She lazily stretched and went to the balcony. For now those creatures just was running, so she could safely go and be on fresh air.

Looking at growling mass of people that changed direction and didn't approach her building from neither side she sighed in relief. Suddenly something caught her attention.

Strange looking piece of metal was hanging nearby and waving in wind like it was made from cloth. Maybe it was one if those materials that just looked like metal.

She found it dangerous as it shown in light and she was worried that it might gather attention either if other people or zombies.

She jumped to catch it but as she was quite short she didn't get even near that. With a sigh she tried to catch it with broom stock but strangely it looked like it was impossible. It was moving so much that broom stick couldn't even touch it.

She sighed in annoyance but brought one of her chairs. As she claimed on the chair the wind or whatever stopped seemingly completely and it stood still, right there. Hanging like it waited for her. Her hands stretched high to touch it and just as she realized that the thing seemingly moved towards her fingertip it moved faster before she could even jerk the hands away.

From shock she swayed and fell to the floor hitting with her head and fainting, right there.

The growl of zombies faded and just darkness and silence enveloped her...
