Chapter 109

“Both,” she said. “We have a matinee of The Mousetraptomorrow, and we’re attending a performance of Toscatomorrow night at Covent Garden.”

“Well done, Angela,” I said.

We all thoroughly enjoyed The Mousetrapand arrived back at the hotel just in time to have high tea in the promenade. Angela seemed especially taken with the experience, and the boys enjoyed it as well. Our seats for Toscawere in an excellent location, and the performance was first rate. The title role was sung by a Russian soprano with whom I wasn’t familiar, but who was more than adequate to the task. Her ‘Vissi d’arte’ earned a standing ovation.

Afterward, in the taxi, I asked the boys what they’d thought of the performance.

Steve summed it up, saying, “It was great, but they all died.”

“Yeah,” Roger said.
