Let's Leave

Her green eyes were looking at him pleadingly, wrenching his heart. Lucas was unable to look away from her earnestness but he could not make such a promise to her.

"Please promise me that you won't kill again," she whispered, her voice cracking. She still could not forget the sight of his tortured face when he was killing Aidan. She was grateful that he saved her but she knew that he was tormenting himself. Every time he killed someone, he inched towards becoming the monster he was afraid of. It came to the fore for a moment that night, scaring her and even Lucas himself.

"I can't make that promise," Lucas said quietly. He gently dabbed the corner of her lips with the cloth.

"If I make that promise then we'll be vulnerable," he went on. "The Wang's will hurt you again and I won't be able to save you."

"Then let's run away!" Lillian begged. "Far away. Somewhere safe so that they can't find us!"
