All of this took us up to eleven o’clock, at which time the judge ordered a recess for lunch. We walked to a nearby restaurant for a light lunch, over which Philip asked how we were doing. “Well,” I said, “we planted a seed of doubt this morning concerning money and where it came from. There’s not much more we can do with that until our turn comes and we put Randolph Forney on the stand. His testimony will blow their theory out of the water.”
Mark said, “It’s good, however, to be able to get the jury to think about the matter now. Then, when Mr. Forney testifies, it won’t be such a novel idea to the jury.”
“The judge is female,” Philip said. “Is that good for us or not?”
“This particular judge has a reputation for fairness,” I said, “and that’s good.”
