TTW Chapter 56: Back to 20th Ward, Again!

While riding in the car, Lin Yi pondered how he would explain the sudden closeness between himself and the Twins. Akira Mado, now his subordinate, would surely have noticed the change if she wasn't oblivious.

However, as soon as they stepped out of the car, the two sisters let go of Lin Yi's arm and obediently stood behind him, behaving like secretaries without any further intimate gestures.

Lin Yi quickly understood. The sisters were smart and probably already figured out the relationship between him and Akira. They were intentionally acting this way to avoid causing trouble for Lin Yi.

Just like Kimi Nishino, they were both dependable and lovable.

Lin Yi sighed but soon caught sight of Akira at the entrance of the branch office, a slight smile forming on his lips.

He had called Akira before arriving, and she had clearly stated that she had something to attend to and wouldn't have time to pick him up.

Yet, here she was in the end.

"Don't misunderstand. I just finished handling some matters and happened to see your car, so I stopped to say hello. After all, you're my superior," Akira explained proactively, feeling a bit embarrassed.

Lin Yi shrugged, indicating that he understood.

However, his expression clearly showed that he didn't believe her.

"Um... How are things going?" Akira changed the subject.

The atmosphere suddenly became heavy.

"Senior Lin, Senior Mado, we just came back and need to report, so we won't disturb you," Kurona said as she held Nashiro's hand and walked out, taking the initiative to speak.

As their words fell, the two sisters entered the CCG branch building.

"Things don't seem to be going well, do they?" Akira, being observant, furrowed her brow slightly as she watched the sisters' backs.

Lin Yi nodded and proceeded to recount the events that had occurred in the 6th Ward, although he definitely embellished some parts of the story.

For example, he downplayed his acquaintance with Dr. Akihiro Kanou and the fact that he had slept with the two sisters afterward, instead portraying it as him consoling them for a long time.

"I understand that feeling better than anyone else. Losing parents must be extremely painful, far beyond the appearance of strength they put up," Akira's mood also turned melancholic.

"Don't underestimate these two girls. They are both amazing. If necessary, I will take care of them even more in the future," Lin Yi intentionally said, reaching out to hold Akira's hand.

But she abruptly pulled away, her face showing displeasure.

"Don't belittle their feelings. Moreover, they are still so young," Akira said, then quickly walked toward the CCG branch building.

"Hey, where are you going? Don't you want to have lunch together?" Lin Yi pursed his lips and asked.

"I'm going to check on them. You can eat by yourself," Akira refused and soon disappeared from sight.

Was he being neglected?

Lin Yi couldn't help but feel that Akira exuded a kind of maternal love.

He shook his head helplessly. It seemed he would have to eat this meal alone. But at least things were moving in a positive direction.

As a loner now, Lin Yi could only turn to Yukinori Shinohara. They hadn't had a meal together in a long time, so they decided to meet in the branch cafeteria, chat about recent events, and catch up.

"I never expected that there would be such a crazy scientist in the 6th Ward, Dr. Kanou. The name sounds familiar. He seems to have worked in the CCG headquarters before," Shinohara slapped his forehead. "

I remember now. He used to be a colleague of Professor A and B in the Ghoul Weapon Laboratory. I didn't expect him to stoop to such a level and commit such insane acts."

"If you hadn't discovered it in time, who knows what terrible things that guy would have done," Shinohara pondered for a moment. A deranged individual with the ability to mass-produce artificial ghouls was terrifying for society.

"I didn't invite you here just to be a listener. I have already reported this to the responsible person in the 6th Ward, and I believe it will soon be compiled into a file and submitted to headquarters," Lin Yi cut to the chase.

"This is certainly a significant achievement, but Lin Yi, you've already been promoted to Special Class. You shouldn't be so eager for accomplishments anymore. I remember you're not very fond of titles and recognition," Shinohara looked at Lin Yi with confusion.

"This incident was successful thanks to the contributions of 3rd Class Investigator Kurona and Nashiro. They are also among the biggest victims. I hope headquarters can provide them with some compensation. After they graduate, I have been mentoring them, and their abilities are sufficient for promotion to Second Class," Lin Yi got straight to the point.

"I knew there was more to it than just inviting me for a meal." Shinohara sighed, and they continued their meal in the cafeteria, making the best of the situation.

The issue lay with that promotion to Second Class.

As a Second Class Investigator, they would be entitled to their own personalized Quinque.

Meanwhile, apart from the Quinque he had given to Akira and his own Jörmungandr, Lin Yi had never handed in any more Quinques.

If he relied on the ones provided by headquarters, they would probably be common and not necessarily better than conventional weapons with Quinque bullets.

Lin Yi revealed a sly smile.

He had his eye on the Quinque in Yukinori Shinohara's possession.

According to CCG rules, when an Investigator hunts a ghoul and harvests a Kagune, there are two options for its handling: either keep it for personal use and make it into a Quinque, or hand it over to headquarters.

Generally speaking, most Investigators would turn in the Kagune harvested from ordinary ghouls. However, on occasion, when they triumphed over powerful ghouls, they would naturally keep the rare Kagune for future use or as reserves.

Now, Lin Yi knew that Yukinori Shinohara was using an SS-rated Ukaku Quinque, a similar cleaver type, along with the Arata defensive Quinque.

In addition, stored in the CCG headquarters warehouse under his name were three S-rated Quinques.
