A Talent

Liu Xinyu seemed quite proud of her sneaky behavior which made Yiyi shake her head at her helplessly.

"What about German?"

Liu Xinyu paused before saying, "I had a classmate who came from Germany as an exchange student for a couple of years. He and I got pretty close. Seeing my closeness to him, some people did not like it. They said I wasn't sincere enough and blah blah blah. Huh! As if by just learning his language, I'd be giving him the due respect and the sincerity. I am a person who can't say no to a challenge. I'm just a very competitive person. Even if I didn't agree with their views, I still followed their wishes and learned German."

"Why did you seem more like a lackadaisical person to me?" asked Yiyi. "I didn't think you had a competitive spirit."

"Then you are wrong. Although I don't envy what others have, once you incite me, I'll go after anything."

"So, you get easily triggered."

"Yes," accepted Liu Xinyu honestly as she felt there was nothing to hide about this considering she was under Yiyi's watch 24/7. "I'm erratic, I'm eccentric, and I'm a bit of a rogue too. I have quirks you can't understand easily."

"Then, are you taking this job?" asked Yiyi as she pointed at the newspaper ad.

Liu Xinyu drummed her fingers on her cheek thoughtfully, "Although it's acceptable, it's too time-consuming. Oh no! It's way too time-consuming considering I'd have to translate everything by hand. I don't have a computer. Typing would have been easier. What is popular these days? Typewriter? That's too noisy." She sighed and shook her hand as she continued reading further. "This family needs a nanny and this one needs a caretaker. This office needs a receptionist. Argh! Why is there no useful information here?"

"I think you are just picky," was Yiyi's opinion regarding Liu Xinyu's remark.

"Oh, there is a land auction," said Liu Xinyu as she read the details and tutted to herself. "Damn! This is real land made of gold. Sadly, I don't have money or the right to join this auction or I'd be swimming in money in a few years. But it's useless to me since I am not even from here."

"You still didn't find anything?" asked Yiyi as she looked at the sun which was shining high. In the spring, even if the sun was bearable, the midday sun would still make one uncomfortable but Yiyi didn't understand why Liu Xinyu wasn't bothered by it. She just saw so many people trying their best to hide from the sun but this girl was still focused on the newspaper. Yiyi thought she should commend Liu Xinyu for being able to zone out the world so remarkably.

"Let's go!" said Liu Xinyu.

"Where?"

"To XingRui Publishing House," answered Liu Xinyu. "Even though I am very much against the hard work of translation work, I still have nothing else to do. Since I have nothing else to do, I can't keep wasting my time in the meantime. Even mosquito meat is still meat. We can't say no to it."

Yiyi put her hand on her lips to hide her smile but wasn't able to do so as she ended up laughing softly. "Sorry! I just think you are a very flexible person. You're stubborn at times but you still know when to bend and how to stretch accordingly too."

"If a tree doesn't learn to bend, it's only ending it being cut off by the strong winds. I know this truth very well."

Yiyi nodded her head saying, "I'm glad you are so understanding about such life lessons."

Liu Xinyu didn't mind her words and continued to walk, looking for her way towards the XingRui Publishing House. She had to ask a few people passing by before she managed to find the building where the publishing house's office was. The office wasn't big but it was well organized.

Liu Xinyu knocked on the door and finally managed to find a person who was covered by a mountain of books on the desk.

"Hi, you are?" asked the lady who wore fashionable glasses with a silver chain.

"I'm Liu Xinyu. I saw your ad in the newspaper. You're looking for translators," Liu Xinyu stated her purpose straightforwardly. "And before you ask, I am good with English, German, and Russian."

The lady raised her brows once she heard those words from Liu Xinyu. They had been looking for translators for a while now since there was always a need for translators in their line of work. But she didn't meet anyone who could speak three languages at the same time.

"Please come inside and take a seat. I'll call my boss," said the lady in white as she stood up and knocked on another door to find her boss.

Liu Xinyu glanced around at the books inside the office and had a look of approval on her face. There were so many classics and popular books. Even if Liu Xinyu hadn't read those books, she had heard the names of the few for sure. Thankfully, she didn't have to wait for long before the boss of the company came out to greet her.

Liu Xinyu looked at the woman who came out with the lady in white and had a subtle look in her eyes. After all, the woman who came out seemed to be younger than the lady in white but she seemed to also had the higher authority around here. If Liu Xinyu wasn't wrong, she might be the CEO.

The fashionable woman extended her hand towards Liu Xinyu as she introduced herself, "Hello, I'm Yan Anyi. It's nice to meet you."

"Hello!" Liu Xinyu shook her hand appropriately before taking her hand back.

"So, I heard you can work with English, German, and Russian. Is that right?"

"Absolutely."

"Can I see any certificate? Or any proof of your qualifications?"

Liu Xinyu sighed mentally and then started blatantly lying, "It's like this, I can't bring out any proof. I have reasons. You see, I ran from home. My family wanted me to marry a man I did not like and wanted me to leave behind my dreams and passion for seeing the outside world. I have a desire to see the world and that's why I insisted on learning different languages. Even though the family was poor, I insisted on my ideas. You must be wondering how did I learn so many languages if I come from a poor family. It's because my grandma was once a part of the Soviet Union. She had a talent for languages and she passed on her talent to me."

Yiyi gave her a round of applause, "Qi Yuze is absolutely right about you. You're a liar and you are an actress. You are wasting your talent for real."

Liu Xinyu did not care about Yiyi's mocking as she was busy trying to look like an innocent girl who was forced by her family to take drastic measures for her dreams. She looked so sad and aggrieved that even Yan Anyi felt a little disoriented. She, a woman who was always clear-headed almost got emotional just because of the look in Liu Xinyu's clear eyes.

Liu Xinyu pretended to wipe her non-existent tears as she added, "How about you take a test or something? I can prove to you my qualifications and ability. What's the point of certificates? You should believe what you see. And I am willing to prove myself right here."
