12 Chapter 12: Survive

Flipping through her grimoires on the floor of Ishida's room, Frieren casually looked at the demon child who turned into a human with interest in her eyes.

"Oh you're awake."

"Um, Hello?"

Seeing the bringer of death to all demons, Frieren inside his room, Ishida's heart started beating faster again.

"Zoltraak"

In a blink of an eye, Frieren immediately fired an offensive magic spell at Ishida.

'!!!'

Ishida instinctively casted a defensive spell.

*BOOM!*

Flying out of his room and landing on the dense forest, Ishida saw Frieren quietly flying up from the second floor of Tuli's house before casting a different spell.

"Hellfire Summoning: Vollzanbel"

A large blast of fire was then situated in front Ishida.

'Shit!'

"Defensive reinforcement!"

Ishida then summoned two layers of defensive magic at Frieren's hells fire.

*Crack*

Seeing his barrier was not gonna hold for long Ishida casted a flight spell on himself to dodge the raging hell fire.

"Support magic: Flight!"

*Swoosh*

*Boom!!*

A mushroom cloud of smoke and fire exploded just meters away from his position.

'Wait, where did she go?!'

Ishida looked around the sky but he couldn't find Frieren.

'!'

Sensing a converging of mana in the surroundings, Ishida looked at where it was.

'Above!'

"Zoltraak"

*Boom!*

Surrounding himself with a defensive barrier, Ishida then looked at Frieren who was pointing her staff at him without any emotion what so ever.

"Gravity Manipulation: Herbst"

All of a sudden, Ishida with his defensive magic in place abruptly flew straight down into the ground creating a large crater.

"Defensive Reinforcement!"

*Boom*

With dust and debri flying into the skies inhibiting her vision. Not giving Ishida a chance to counter attack, Frieren immediately casted another spell.

"Destructive Lightning: Judradjim"

Launching numerous bolts of lightning in multiple directions towards the dust cloud.

*Boom*

After a second of silence, Frieren casted another spell to remove the dust and debri from her sight.

"Wind manipulation: Flatumvier"

Looking down at the crater she caused, Frieren wasn't able to see Ishida any where.

She felt a small but sudden brief mana convergence behind her.

*Boom!*

Ishida who was just behind Frieren immediately saw her cast a defensive spell who was just a millisecond short causing some of the Zoltraak to create a small tear to appear on her white clothes.

'So it is true!'

Ishida immediately casted an large array of arcane circles behind him and snapped his finger.

Seeing the absurd amount of arcane circles being summoned by Ishida, Frieren couldn't help but wince.

'Fire!'

In a blink of an eye all of Ishida's arcane circles immediately fired all them at once.

Frieren immediately put more mana unto her spell and quickly flew opposite of Ishida's direction.

*Swoosh*

*Boom*

"Zoltraak"

*BOOM!*

"Barrier!"

*Boom!*

Frieren combated the army of zoltraaks with ease while blocking and dodging them with her own spells until suddenly she pointed her staff at Ishida and uttered a spell.

"Destructive Lightning: Judradjim"

A barrage of lighting moved towards at Ishida at breakneck speeds.

Stopping his zoltraak barrages, Ishida quickly summoned a barrier around him.

*Crackle*

*Boom*

*Boom!*

*BOOM!*

With the sounds of the lighting vibrating in his barrier, Ishida couldn't help but sweat unconsciously.

Finally given a chance to cast her spells, Frieren quickly moved as fast she can on the air towards Ishida.

*Swoosh*

"Support Magic: Dispell"

Her staff glowed a golden aura before finally using it to hit Ishida's barrier.

*Break*

Ishida's eyes widened in surprise.

"Wait!"

"Zoltraak!"

*Boom!*

Ishida's left arm disappeared from his entire body.

*Agh!*

Holding his left shoulder in pain, Ishida looked at Frieren who was looking at him, like he was nothing more than a monster.

'I didn't know you could do that?!'

Pouring more mana on his flight spell, Ishida quickly made some distance away from Frieren before casting a spherical barrier around him.

"Defensive Magic: Barrier!"

Seeing Ishida, cast another circular barrier, Frieren casted a counter spells for it.

"Gravity Manipulation: Venirei"

In a swift motion, Ishida who was inside the spherical barrier suddenly got force pulled towards Frieren.

Her staff started to make a golden aura again before finally smashing it at Ishida's barrier who was getting closer to her in a fast pace

*Break*

'You can't use the same trick twice!'

Just as Frieren was about cast Zoltraak at him, Ishida then sneakily casted a palm sized zoltraaks he hid in the forest just as he was about to get pulled in by Frieren.

"Zoltraak"

*Break*

'Bulls eye'

Ishida saw his miniature zoltraak beam break Frieren's crescent mooned staff in two.

Frieren coldly looked at Ishida and then at the staff, Flamme gave to her as a gift when she learned the spell to make a field of flowers.

'!'

Ishida was suddenly pushdown from the ground at the ground in the blink of eye making a human sized crater in the forest

*Gasp*

Coughing out a mouthful of blood, Ishida then observed Frieren who now descending close to him.

'I couldn't feel her cast a spell, what was that!'

Frieren coldly looking at Ishida who was now in the crater no longer being able move a single muscle from his body before emotionlessly casting a spell.

"The Height of Magic"

*Boom*

Ishida's body started to get heavier and heavier by the second.

*Guh!*

*Boom!*

"Zoltraak!"

With a single mental trigger in mind, a palm sized zoltraak from the forest quickly shot through Frieren's stomach.

'how did he... '

'He prepared another set of zoltraaks hidden in the forrest...'

*Cough*

Coughing out a mouthful of blood, Frieren widened her eyes in surprise before looking at her where she sustainaned her injury before falling to the ground and prefusely bleeding excessively.

*Thud*

Feeling that he could move again, Ishida quickly used flying magic to get out the human shaped crater and rush towards Frieren's body.

Seeing the demon child turned human, still alive and well, Frieren made a regrettable face.

'I'm sorry Heiter, I couldn't keep my promise...'

"Fuck"

"Fuck'

Using crouching close to Frieren's body, Ishida was voluntarily cursing before raising right arm at Frieren's wound and closing his eyes.

'Healing magic could be conceived as a manipulation of quantum fields. At its core, this magic would entail altering the fundamental building blocks of matter and energy at the subatomic level to facilitate rapid cellular regeneration or repair.

One hypothetical explanation could involve tapping into a theoretical field akin to the Higgs field, which imbues particles with mass. By accessing and modulating this field through mana, mages could potentially influence the stability and integrity of biological structures, speeding up healing processes.'

After a minute of waiting an arcane circle appeared on his soul and Ishida quickly activated it's trigger and a calm green light surfaced from his right hand

*Cough*

"What are you doing..."

Frieren who was watching the demon child who she tried to kill, suddenly change his attitude and worriedly looked at her like her death would give him sorrow.

"I can't let you die here!"

Ishida shouted with sadness in his voice.

"w-Why?"

Hearing the words coming out of his voice, Frieren couldn't help but ask why was Ishida saving her.

"It's because that's what a good person would do."

Frieren then looked at the child in front of her and envisioned Himmel saying those words to her, Frieren silently muttered to Ishida.

"Himmel..."

Frieren slowly closed her eyes in front of Ishida.

"Frieren!"

"Don't die on me now!"

"Frieren!"

Ishida who was still casting healing magic at Frieren immediately shouted at her.

Pouring more mana into the function of his spell, the whole that made from his Zoltraak started to miraculously stitch it self back together before finally leaving that Frieren's injury is fully healed.

Ishida quickly checked her pulse and her breathing with his right hand.

"She is still breathing..."

*Pheewh*

Looking at his now armless shoulder, Ishida casted a healing spell to his right hand and hovered it around his left shoulder.

In a course of a minute, Ishida's left arm grew back completely new.

Moving his left arm to his eyes, Ishida couldn't help but be astonished by the effectiveness of his healing magic.

'I should probably heal the rest of my body too..'

Casting a calm green light throughout his body, Ishida was now fully healed from any of the past spells, Frieren threw at him.

"I was only able to defeat Frieren through a cheeky surprise attack..."

"If Frieren and I went for another rematch, I would one hundred percent lose..."

Standing up from his sitting position, Ishida then looked at Frieren who is currently lying besides him.

*Sigh*

"Why do I feel like Fern all of a sudden?'

Grabbing one of Frieren's arms and wrapping it around his shoulder, Ishida then began piggy back riding Frieren to Tuli's house

'My god, she is heavy...'

After ten minutes of hiking, Ishida was able to see the broken room at second floor from a kilometer away.

'I hope Tuli can fix that...'

Opening the door to the house, Ishida was then greeted by no one.

'Weird, where did they go?'

Ignoring the missing owners of the house for now, Ishida then climbed up the stairs and open the room to his left, where Tuli's room would be.

'Tuli's also not here...'

Walking inside the room, Ishida carefully placed Frieren on the bed at the corner of the room before putting a blanket over her body.

'They must had at least left a note somewhere?'

Closing the door to Tuli's room, Ishida then went down stairs to the living room and saw a small note tucked in a basket of bread fruits.

(We left to report back to Morgenrot on what happened in the forest, here is your food for the week, we will be back after one week.)

'So they really left me alone here?'

'What would they do if I suddenly ran away?'

Ishida shook his head, while taking a piece of bread from the basket.

*Crunch*

"It's stale..."

*Crunch*

*Thud*

'Hmm?'

Hearing a sudden noise coming from upstairs, Ishida couldn't help but hum at the disturbance.

'Frieren woke up?'

Ishida took another piece of bread from the living room table and continued munching on it.

*Tap*

With a sound of hurried foot steps, Frieren went down stairs and quietly eyed at Ishida who was eating a baguette vertically with both of his hands before ignoring him and calmly opening the door to the house and leaving.

Seeing Frieren hurriedly leaving without saying anything, Ishida couldn't help but wonder why she was in a hurry.

'I think I might had broken something important to her...'

In the forest, Frieren is looking around for the pieces of her staff.

'Where is it...'

*Rustle*

"I can't find it...'

Frieren continued on looking for it, until suddenly a black haired human child, who she tried to kill just moments ago appeared from one of the bushes, with the remnants of her staff in his hand.

"How did you find it?"

Frieren looked at the crescent moon staff in Ishida's hands and curiously asked.

"I developed a spell to find important missing items as long they have been with the person for a long time..."

"I see..."

Taking a broken staff from his hands, Frieren couldn't help but get angry at Ishida for breaking her staff.

Seeing that Frieren is still unsatisfied, Ishida then spoke up.

"I also created a spell that can fix almost any broken item as long as I have all the pieces..."

Hearing Ishida's words, Frieren curiously looked at Ishida and then her staff before giving to him again.

"Fix it."

Nodding at Frieren, Ishida then closed his eyes and focused some his mana into the surroundings and then finally unto the broken staff.

Feeling Ishida's perfect control of his mana, Frieren's ears twitched in anticipation, while looking at her staff and it's pieces floating up into the sky put itself back together piece by piece until finally her crescent moon staff floated towards her completely new like it wasn't broken what so ever.

Grabbing the newly fixed staff in the air, Frieren then heavily inspected it before firing a zoltraak at Ishida.

'!'

Ishida quickly casted a barrier in front of him and nervously looked at Frieren with fear in his eyes.

"What was that for?!"

"I'm just checking if it's still working."

Frieren then lightly smiled at Ishida who was looking at her with fear written on his face.
