Flashier Moves

Lin Dan turned and looked at his twin with a forced smile, teeth-gritting, and narrow eyes. In response, Lin Jiang smiled at him sweetly as if he didn't push him into a pit.

After breakfast, the family gathered on the training ground.

General Lin explained the rules, "Okay, so all of you will be fighting against the high-ranking officers from my army. Martial artists and spirit cultivators will be divided into two groups. So, take your sides. Left – martial artists and right – spirit cultivators."

The Lin siblings took their sides. Lin Huiying and Lin Dan were the only martial artists amongst them while the other three were spirit cultivators.

Lin Fengmian: a dual cultivator of fire and wind, Lin Biao: earth, and Lin Jiang: water.

Lin Huiying was a little nervous but a lot more excited to present herself. She was brimming with excitement and giddiness. Why? Because she was a brown belt in Krav Maga in her previous life.

Her parents were the overprotective type who enrolled her in Karv Maga at the age of 5. They would be worried about her all the time and only slept after receiving the text from her that she had reached the home at 1:15 am after her late-night shift.

So, the only reason she was allowed to study abroad – away from them – was that she was a brown belt in Krav Maga, and she would be living with her brother.

Lin Huiying had confidence in her martial arts because just two weeks ago to test her skills on the Kungfu practitioner she had fought with the three people from her grandfather's army. The results were quite satisfying. Before this, she had never appreciated the fact that she had to learn such a hard martial art and never got to use it. But now she does.

"Alright, first we'll start with the spirit cultivators. Lin Fengmian, you'll fight my Second in command since you have already surpassed my General four months ago." Old man Lin called his second in command who was a fire cultivator.

If viewed from the military hierarchy, old man Lin is the Chief Commander of the army. But in layman language, he was called a general.

The fights were intense. It looked cool as a spectator on the bench. Her brother was indeed cool. She had a general idea of how this world works on some magical stuff but watching it in person was a whole different thing.

It felt like sitting in a Marvel movie. Suddenly she didn't feel good about her martial arts background. It was not as cool as the spirit cultivators. She wanted to do something magical too.

Her eyebrows frowned, and she looked a little down. Her mother next to her felt the mood-drop.

"What happened?" She asked her daughter.

"Mother, I…. don't know." Lin Huiying found it a little difficult to express her dissatisfaction with her talent.

"I just wish that I was a spirit cultivator like my brother. He is...…amazing. While I can just fight." She spits it out.

Lu Yi-Ching understood that her daughter was dissatisfied, "Sweetheart, what do you mean just fight. Learning Kungfu is not an easy thing. You are blessed with special physic which they are not. And for me both my children are amazing. So don't compare yourself to your brother."

Lin Huiying sighed, "I know mother. I am happy about what I have, but I think I was just a little sad looking at my brother. I feel I am not as good enough."

Lu Yi-Ching: "How are you not good enough? He can defeat an enemy. And so can you. Then what is the difference? That his moves are flashier than you?"

Lin Huiying's mouth tugged upwards, "Flashier? It's a good word mother. It's alright, I am not too sad or something."

Lu Yi-Ching: "Look my child, you both are two different people. Your powers are completely different. He is a spirit cultivator, and you are a martial artist. Comparing you both is like insulting nature. No two people are going to be the same. Everyone has different fortes."

Lin Huiying soon brushed up her mood, "You are correct, mother. We both have completely different forms of power. I was being an idiot. He can't do, what I can."

After the assessment of spirit cultivators was finished, Lin Dan went forward to fight a Colonel. His slacking off was obvious enough in the fight – so he was signed up for double training by old man Lin.

"Grandfather I was not defeated immediately. I put up a good fight for such a long time against him. Why are you increasing my training? That's unfair." Lin Dan had an aggrieved look.

Old man Lin: "Because you were not supposed to last long against my Colonel but defeat him which you couldn't. I expect you to be ready enough to serve under me in two years if I ever need you guys. With your level I doubt it. So, no arguments."
