Embracing the new (1)

The fields were glade-green. The sound of chirping chicks filled the air. A pageant of smells floated in the spring air and a horde of dandelions littered the meadow. Staffs of slim light spilled from the sky. Proud-breasted pigeons strutted across the meadow.

The scene was spirit-refreshing and pastoral. The garden smelled pear fresh. There was a blossom sweet taste to the food one ate.

"Young miss, would you like another plate of osmanthus cake?" Sheng Xue asked the girl sitting on the lean-back chair in the garden with her eyes closed while enjoying the spring weather.

The girl's face looked peaceful. That face would always make the people turn their heads to keep looking at it. After hearing her maid's question she opened her eyes slowly and gazed at the beautiful scenery of her garden in front of her.

Then she looked at the empty plate beside her on the table. After counting the cakes she already ate she looked at Sheng Xue standing beside her and replied, "I think I had enough for today. Any more than this and I won't be able to have lunch."

"That's a good call, young miss." Sheng Jie teasingly commented.

Hearing her comments, Lin Huiyin lightly snorted and gave her second maid a narrow look that lasted for two seconds before going to her usual self.

Sheng Jie smiled a little after her young miss looked away. She liked her miss's change in personality. 'So if seen from a positive perspective, the accident from twenty days ago was not a disaster.'

Lin Huiyin looked at the scenery before her and fall into deep thoughts.

It's exactly been twenty days since she was transmigrated into this world. Well, it was a very cliché setup. She was an orthopedic surgeon in the 21st century at the age of thirty. Single. Beautiful. Wealthy. Intelligent.

She lived in Seattle with her family. Had quite a good life. Loving parents, Brother, sister-in Law, young niece, and nephew. A well-paying job plus extra income from investments and bonds. There was nothing major in life to complain about.

After getting her medical license at the age of twenty-nine, she had yet to take any vacation. So she had decided to take a small break.

Her grandpa, mother's father was an archaeologist. He had gifted her a lotus pendant for her birthday which he had found after exploring a temple's ruins many years ago.

From that moment she had been wearing that pendant her whole life because it was extremely exquisite and it reminded her of her grandpa after he passed away.

When she was exploring the ruins, she came across a book that had the exact lotus symbol on it. She got curious and took it home with her. At night she started reading about it and at one point she came across a page where it said to hold the pendant and recite the written words.

Well, what bad could happen in such a technologically advanced world? The answer is – she transmigrated to a novel with a reborn-revenge genre.

And guess what? She became the villain of the book.

It was not impossible to accept such a plot twist in life. Why? Because she had read a ton of transmigration/reborn – fantasy web novels. But that doesn't mean that she was not shocked out of her wits when it happened to her.

Initially, she experienced an emotional rollercoaster from feeling shocked to sad to happy to lose to emptiness to acceptance at the end.

She was happy to experience something so unreal that she had only imagined about and somewhere inside her heart wanted to experience it for once.

She felt empty because she had lost her family which she loved more than her own life. She couldn't bear the fact that she would never meet them again and was stuck in an unknown world with no loved ones or friends.

Suddenly everything becomes real. It was no longer just a novel with fictional characters, but it was her very own life.

Slowly she came to accept the dubious reality. She HAD to since she was left with no other option.

She had to live on rather than feeling like a victim and refusing to accept what was right in front of her. She decided to embrace the new and let go of the past.
