The End of a Genius

Xiao Luning strolled down the bustling streets, humming her heart out to the latest tune from her favorite band. The lyrics were a soulful serenade in her ears.

"I didn't think, didn't think, that this was just a dream. I'm doing everything, everything just for your attention~"

Her tone-deaf voice danced with the melody. Her love for the music was evident in every note.

"Classic," she muttered, nodding her head to the beat. Some kids and their parents even exchanged quizzical glances as they passed her.

She sported the uniform of her office and her signature thick glasses, resembling the quintessential office nerd. Her androgynous look was deceptive, but she didn't care.

Nothing was more important than the height of the offered salary. After all, if they had the same expensive hobby as she did, they might have to.

It was costly.

Xiao LuNing wasn't just any fan; she was an entertainment sponge with an Eidetic memory.

Her obsession with idols and musicians went far beyond casual. She was the kind of fan who bought classical music albums and even spent millions on her beloved versions.

Right now, she was multitasking; listening to her music, and reading as she walked. It might have been a chaotic endeavor, but Xiao LuNing was well-practiced.

But, nothing could prepare her for what was about to unfold.

A car hurtled down the hill, brakes screaming in futile protest. The driver, panic-stricken, honked frantically, hoping she'd hear. Xiao LuNing, oblivious to the impending disaster, remained motionless.

BEEP! BEEEEPPP!! BEEPP!!!

It was chaos.

People fled for safety. The driver even leaped to escape the oncoming calamity. Blinding headlights illuminated her world, casting a shadow over her as the massive car approached.

UGH!

The collision was inevitable.

Bones shattered.

The searing pain swept through her body. Unfortunately, her head collided with a jagged rock, creating a dent.

Lying wait, she caught glimpses of people calling for help and others rushing to her side.

With blurry vision, she mused, 'So, it's true. When you're about to die, your life will flash before you.'

Her eyes turned towards her phone which broke into pieces.

'How regrettable, I just haven't finished reading the next chapter. Good thing, I finished listening to the song.'

As her consciousness waned, she thought, 'I don't think I regret doing everything for money and spending it on things that gave me momentary happiness.'

Her breath weakened.

'At least…'

It stopped.

'I was happy.'

BEEP.
