Transcendent Monarch

At one point it was normal. We lived out our lives doing the same old same old. It was all fine... until it wasn't... A couple of months ago monsters we knew from a new video game called Legacy started to invade our world, reaping lives and destroying everything around us. At first, we figured the reports were fake but we quickly realized it wasn't when a boss monster most people knew appeared and erased a city from the map. Luckily we weren't as helpless as we originally thought. We, the players, were able to bring our game strength to the real world along with our companions, historic figures both fictional and not, to defend our planet. As things got worse with stronger monsters invading the real world we players split into two groups, the defenders and the players, where we took turns playing Legacy and defending our world to not lose against the growing strength of the invading monsters. It was working for a couple of months but then the strength of the monsters grew exponentially and we were unable to keep up. We lost city after city, bastion after bastion, and many beloved and powerful players lost their lives fighting for our world. When we were finally pushed to the brink and were at the last bastion of humanity, when the world needed something to rally behind, a banner flew high on the ramparts, and a single person was at the forefront of the real and game worlds, bringing about a tale that would be told eternally, a story about the leader of two worlds who brought an end to the monster invasion, The Transcendent Monarch, Zero. ___________________________________ Astral here, just writing this for fun since I've always wanted to cover this topic but never got around to bringing it to life. Now I have a chance I think so while it may be slow and pass the WPC deadline until things start taking shape I want to put ideas to paper more, unlike my other failed drafts. Leave a review and/or comment on chapters, I read it all.

Forming a Team

With the click of hilt against sheath, Marcus panted lightly as he looked at the defeated wolves around him, his new level of five shining brightly above his head before dimming considerably. "That was a little rough…" he mumbled, his hand running through his hair once again as he worked to calm his nerves, after which he checked the time on the quest and saw that he had taken eight minutes to beat all of those wolves.

"Well done!" A smiling Gilgamesh said as he walked over to Marcus while clapping his gauntlets together in applause. "You have the makings of a fine warrior." He said as he stopped before him and looked around once to the empty ground which previously had the slain wolves across it.

Furrowing his eyes briefly, Gilgamesh returned his gaze to Marcus as he pointed to a sparkling chest piece on the ground while subsequently pointing to a similarly sparkling green pair of pants that had a tuft of wolf fur on the side of the waistband. "Don't forget your items." he reminded.

Turning to look at the items mentioned, Marcus quickly moved to retrieve them as he had gotten hit a couple of times in that battle and his health had fallen to under half, retrieving one of the twenty lesser health potions that players receive upon starting the game, Marcus poured it over the claw mark that dug unto his left forearm, causing his body to briefly glow with a green aura before healing completely..

"We should continue, I don't think we have time to fight beasts in the forest for too long," Marcus spoke as he looked at the equipment in his hands.

______________________________

Since he originally selected the swordsman class and felt it was fine, meaning he wasn't going to change it using the beginner option provided to those under level 10, Marcus decided to put twenty points into strength, fifteen into vitality, and seven and six into both luck and dexterity respectively.

As to why he put points into luck, well, luck actually decreased the experience needed to get to the next level while having higher crit percentages and a loot drop rate increase. Plus of course, it boosted your overall luck with chance events.

Satisfied currently with his stat points, Marcus planned to help Gilgamesh but seeing his status points added automatically he decided to continue onward. By this time it was already reaching the forty-minute elapsed mark so that left him an hour and twenty minutes to clear the dungeon.

..

.

Pushing past the brush that was in front of him, Marcus followed by Gilgamesh walked towards the sounds of battle that were coming from the direction of the path to the dungeon. After a couple of minutes, they finally arrived at a clearing, within it was a battle that seemed to be between four wolves ranging from levels eight to ten.

They were also a new type of wolf that had basic control over wind. Their fur was rightly colored in a pale green while having some pattern on their fur that was white in color. Opposing them were four people, three of whom were wearing black cloaks.

"Is that all you got?!" One of them, a woman sporting no cloak yet was in a black leather bodysuit with pieces of light armor plating covering her vitals, yelled as she slammed her fist into the body of a wolf, its punch going right through it as it erased a portion of the wolf as if cutting butter.

Watching it fall to the ground, the woman snorted and turned to look at the other wolf that was attacking her, glaring at it angrily as if it was wronging her by just existing. Feeling the danger behind the glare, the wolf trembled as it stayed still for a moment before… running away.

"Come back here!" The woman shouted angrily as she prepared to chase the wolf but stopped as she saw two spells flying over to the wolf and impact it, destroying any remaining health it had.

"Lady Fenrir, you shouldn't get so angry, these animals are nothing to someone of your strength," A calm and soothing voice said, causing the woman, Fenrir, to turn and glare at the two ladies that had kept their distance in the back.

"Be quiet Hypatia, you and that girl are lucky we are even accompanying you, we could have left this stupid forest days ago!"

"While that is true, you aren't the one deciding things am I right?" Hypatia responded as she crossed her arms over her modestly sized assets. The magic rod in her hand disappeared instantly as looked to the girl beside her. " Serenity dear, would you like to stop for today? We've made lots of progress."

Looking back towards her beautiful companion, then to Fenrir, Serenity prepared to respond before a shout was heard from the only man in their team who was busy fighting two wolves alone.

"CAN I GET SOME HELP FENRIR?"

"Shut up! You know these doggies are too weak to hurt you, hurry up and finish them off" Fenrir responded annoyedly as she walked over to the man that had summoned her.

"Aren't we supposed to be a team???" The man replied as he slashed his sword at one of the wolves, killing it instantly before dodging the attack of the other, his hand raising just to the side of the wolf as a fireball grew in front of it and shot out, impacting the wolf and burning the rest of its health to 0.

"You don't need a team if you could have simply done that from the start!" Fenrir said as she walked up to the man and slapped the back of his head. "Now, stop acting like a fool, we have spectators." She spoke softly, the man quickly standing straight as he and the rest of his group turned towards Marcus and Gilgamesh.

"Did you enjoy the show?" Fenrir asked, her eyes settling on Gilgamesh as her thirst for battle was triggering as her senses warned her of the danger he presented. "He's strong…"

Stepping out of the edge of the forest, into the clearing, Marcus and Gilgamesh approached the four people as he thought about how to proceed before speaking. "I wasn't able to watch a lot of the battle as we arrived at the end but it was enjoyable, I'm Zero by the way, hope we didn't intrude by spectating" Marcus stated calmly as he wore a friendly smile on his face.

"How do you do, I am Silverwind, this is my friend Serenity." The man beside Fenrir stepped forward as he lowered his hood and stood across from Marcus. He was a human race male with pale skin, scruffy silver hair, dark purple eyes, and a seemingly friendly attitude.

Stepping forward, the only other hooded person stepped forward and lowered her hood, revealing remarkably unblemished pale skin, long straight white hair, and smokey grey eyes. Stopping behind Silverwind, she issued a short greeting as Fenrir and Hypatia stood behind them, their eyes scanning both Marcus and Gilgamesh.

"Level 16 and Level 13, wow you both are doing great for yourselves," Commented Marcus as he noticed their levels appearing beside their names after removing their hoods.

"We did some quests that took a couple of days but we are probably going to do a dungeon run or two until we hit level 20 and get out of this newbie zone. You, on the other hand, are level 5, did you just start recently?" Sivlerwing inquired after explaining a bit of their situation. He put his sword into its sheath as he felt no hostility from Marcus like some other people who tried to extort newbies for a "tax".

"I started today actually, I wanted to get to a dungeon for faster levels than using these wolves in the forest, but I have no friends that aren't over level 20 already," Marcus explained as he adopted a more relaxed posture. "If either of you aren't busy, would you both like to dungeon run with me?" He asked, trying to capitalize on the opportunity before him.

Looking back to Serenity, Silverwind pondered for a moment before seeing her shrug. "Well, I see no problem with that, we don't really have anyone else to work with besides each other so another person there would definitely be helpful," Silverwind said with a smile as he extended his hand out, waiting a moment before Marcus grabbed it with his own and their hands shook.

"So the take is 70/30 right?" Silverwind quickly said as he accepted the party invite Marcus had sent.

"70 for who? You cried wolf against beasts half your level! Give Zero the 70 percent, he'd probably fight ten of those wolves alone before you do" Remarked Fenrir as she turned her head to the side, not wanting to support this shameless man.

"I just wanted to work on our teamwork!" Silverwind replied exasperatedly, before turning around and arguing with his companion, leaving Serenity and Hypatia, along with Marcus and Gilgamesh to watch the exchange between summoner and companion.
