I am Death - Part 1

Death is very lonely. I should know because I am death.

I am no god, I am no being, I just simply am. I can't remember how long I've been on this earth, or why I've been put here. You could call me a spirit but I am no ghost. Death is always pain, I despise pain, it's ironic really because I'm literally pain. Death is not what I feed on or bring, it's what I am. I cannot bring someone death but when they die, their pain, that dying breath, it goes to me; it becomes me, let's me exist. The reason why I hate it, is because I can feel everything they felt while they've died.

2032, that's when the apocalypse started, nuclear war between every single continent. Making everything extinct, only 10 humans survived, during that time I felt so much death. 2 months and millions died, it was so fast, I tried everything I could to make them see reason but they were blinded by war. War is a nasty creature, they unlike I, feed off of blood and anger. But ever since the human species was almost blown to extinction, war has also died.

That is why I learned that I can die too, but only when there is nothing left to die can I die. With the last 10 humans left, I have brought them all together; in a underground bunker. 1 from the Uk, 2 from China, 1 from Italy, 1 from the Dominican Republic, 3 from Africa and 2 from America. The most survivors are from Africa because they had the most remote and safe bunkers. Many would still be alive if not for disease that spread through the bunkers. The 2 from China just got lucky, they were on an island in a safe house far away from the bombs. They are siblings, 10 and 14 years old, poor things. The woman from Italy is a 60 year old marine biologist who was out in the middle of the ocean near Antarctica for the entirety of the war. The boy from Dominican Republic was in a poorly made bunker with a year supply worth of food. The one from Uk was a heavily protected rich woman who was very intelligent. And 2 teenagers from America, only heaven knows how they survived.

I brought them all to a small untouched island close to South Africa. I gave them all boats and supplies to get there. I mailed them all a letter pretending to be a call for help and sent them a satellite solar gps, plus a gas mask and plenty of oxygen tanks to get there and more when they arrived. I need them to live.

When the first ones got there, the ones from Africa were the closest, they were confused and began to set up their things in a bunker I left directions in the letter for them to find. It's in the very center of the island with a big red flag towering over the whole island. The second was the marine biologist from italy, then the Chinese siblings, then the boy from the Dominican Republic and lastly the Americans and the woman from the Uk arrived at the same time.

The bunker was huge, only one floor but still pretty big for a bunker. There were 8 bedrooms, 1 for each person to share but I kept one room for the kids because I know kids would probably want to be in a room with some other humans instead of being alone again. How terrifying it must have been for those kids to be all alone, I know it's terrifying for me. Anyways, when you enter the bunker there is an entrance with a cleaning chamber to wash off all the bacteria so nothing contaminates the bunker. Next there are two hallways on the left and right where there are 4 bedrooms in each hallway. Instead of walking down those hallways you can walk straight into the living room. There is a couch big enough to fit 20, a fireplace that warms up the whole bunker, with a wood room with enough wood for a century and the flatscreen TV could fit a horse inside of it. If you turn left on there is a beautiful kitchen, with a stone countertop and two ovens. Plus steps that lead to a pantry as big as the whole bunker and some space to do some gardening. If you walk into a hallway that is in the kitchen it leads to a dining room with exactly 10 seats. In the dining room is a glass wall with a glass door that opens into an underground play area with an acre of land 4 trees and a lot of area to run. I also put in a play set for the kids, and a barbecue area in case they ever wanted to grill. I really want these humans to be happy and live a good life, and hopefully restore humanity.

They all introduced themselves to each other and got along for the most part, though the woman from the Uk, who we know as Melinda, is very moody. The Americans and Africans quickly became close considering they were all in their early 20s. The kids from China and the boy from the Dominican Republic were also the same ago so they played with the sports equipment I put in the outdoor area. The children from China didn't understand a lot but the woman from Italy tried to teach them a little. Her name is Hera, she is like the mom or grandma of the group, she told them the wildest stories about her travels around the world and the many things she learned. Everyone was very happy to finally see other people except Matilda. She sat in the corner bedroom staring at the items she brought in her suitcase the whole first night. She was staring at a picture of a man and some kids, probably her husband and children, I get that she misses them so I left her alone for a little. For dinner Hera made tacos, they looked delicious and I wanted one but I don't consume human food. After that they all played monopoly, with the exclusion of Matilda and went to bed. That concluded the first night of saving humanity, I think my plan worked pretty well. I went to check on the kids one more time when I heard Jose, the little boy from the Dominican Republic, whispering something. I got closer to him to hear what he was saying and it was a thank you. "Thank you for saving me, I know you're here, I want to tell you a hundred times thank you." With that he went to sleep and when I was sure he was asleep I whispered "you're welcome" and left to wait until they all woke up again.
