In A Different World Called Tortus

(3rd POV)

"O' heroes from another world, please save us from the demons!" The old looking priest said.

The class was shocked because of the sudden change in environment but when they heard the priest's voice, it made them snap out of the daze and they started panicking.

"WHERE ARE WE?!"

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN 'ANOTHER WORLD'?!"

"WHERE IS MY PANTSU?!"

While everyone was in a state of panic, a student stepped forward and stood in front of all of the students and said in a charismatic voice.

"Everyone calm down! I am sure they are the ones who summoned us! So why don't we first hear about their circumstances?"

The students calmed down a little after hearing his voice. For them, the boy was like a charismatic leader that gave them a ray of hope that they will survive and get out of the situation somehow.

"That's right! Let's do what Amanogawa-san said, I am sure they had a reason for this!"

"Yeah!"

"You are right Amanogawa-san!"

One after another the voices of students could be heard as they started to agree with Amanogawa, forgetting temporarily that they were in an unknown place. The student was Amanogawa Kouki, a typical ikemen with good looks, athletic, had good grades and a good personality. He had silky brown hair and brown gentle eyes. Kouki was one of the most popular students in the school and he was perfectly fit for the hero role in an isekai novel...

The priest got surprised and calmed down due to the sudden change in attitude of students. All of the students looked at him with questioning eyes 'What is this scenario, where are we???'

"I am grateful for your assistance, young man," the priest directed his words of gratitude towards Amano and then looked at the students and spoke in a gentle manner, "Welcome to Tortus, brave heroes. It is our pleasure to welcome you here. I am the pope of the Holy Church, Ishtar Langbard. It is an honor to make your acquaintances," The old man, who called himself Ishtar, turned out to be a good-natured person.

(Shirou's POV)

'So we're really in another world' I thought, then I took a look at the surroundings, 'I don't know about the magus of the Age of The Gods, but I am sure only a few or most probably none of the magus in the current era can teleport between places, not to mention, such a large scaled teleportation,' while thinking, I looked at my class as we followed the pope, then I squinted as I thought of a certain possibility 'So that means that it can be the work of a god?'

'But why would he/she do it? Why would he/she summon only us?' My unanswered queries were aroused in my mind

After a small pedestrian trip we arrived at a luxurious banquet hall, Aiko-sensei and Kouki sat at the front most seats, and then following their lead students started to fill the available seats. I, Hajime and Sakura ended up sitting at the very end of the table.

The moment everyone was settled in their seats, a number of carts entered the room, pushed by maids dressed in western clothing; Every boy had a lustful expression on their faces when they saw the maids but of course I wasn't amongst them, what a chad I am ( ꈍᴗꈍ), but they received a cold glare from the maids, such glare that could send chills down the spines of any person. Well, I wasn't affected by the beauty of maids as I had seen women way more beautiful than them.

After everyone finished their meals Ishtar clapped his hands attaining everyone's attention.

"Now then, I am certain that you all must be feeling very confused about the situation you've found yourselves in. So I shall explain everything from the beginning. All I ask of all of you is that hear me attentively till the end," Ishtar spoke humbly, his explanation was like that of an NPC from a fantasy RPG.

Summarizing the explanation, this world is called Tortus, within which 3 different races live here, Humans, Demi-Humans and Demons, each of the races have their own territory. The Human territory resides in the northern half of the continent, Demons live in the southern half, and Demi-Humans settle far to the east within a massive forest…..

Humans and Demons were hostile to each other, they had been on a war for over hundreds of years. While Demons lacked the advantage in terms of numbers, they compensated for the drawback with individual strength that far surpassed strength of the majority of Humans. Both sides hadn't broken into a major battle for decades. However, the situation of humans was now grave, the advantage they had in terms of numbers turned meaningless as the Demons started to tame strange monsters.

Monsters are wild animals that undergo a magical metamorphosis after having absorbing mana. The monster's biology is still not fully understandable for Humans. They apparently are very powerful and some of them are even able to use magic, that's a big threat. It was hard for humans to tame them and, even if they did, they could hardly handle one or two at the same time.

As the Demons were able to somehow tame these monsters, the numeric advantage of Humans disappeared and they faced a huge crisis now, and the threat of them being eliminated lingered around them always.

"The one who summoned you all here is our lord, Ehit. He is the guardian deity of us humans, and the one true god of the Holy Church. The supreme ruler who created the world itself. I believe that Lord Ehit is aware of our plight. He has realized that humanity is doomed and is close to annihilation, so he summoned you all here in order to prevent such a disaster. You heroes are humans from a world greater than ours, and you carry within you the strength that surpasses the humans of this world,"

'So my guess was correct,' I thought, 'But still, I feel something is off,' From my experience as a veterane weeb, there was always a hidden intention behind the summoning to another world, using an excuse like to save humanity and use them as disposable yet valuable war tool and after they finish their mission, they would either kill him for their own interest or something like that.

Then Ishtar paused for a moment before continuing hesitantly. "Or at least, that is what was shown to me in a divine revelation,"

"Regardless, I implore you all to do as Lord Ehit has willed you. Please, defeat the demons and save the human race from destruction," He seemed almost in a trance as he said that. And I was right as usual.

According to Ishtar, over 90% of humans revered the creator god Ehit, and those who received his divine visions were without exception given high-ranking positions in the Holy Church.

I feel something is wrong here. If what I heard from Ishtar is correct, then people here are like brainwashed people who joined a cult and they would kill everyone as they deemed heretic and follow blindly the "The Will of God".

(E/N: DUES VULT HERETIC SCUM!!!!)

(A/N: I knew someone would say that :v)

(E/N: UmU, of course I'll do, I'm a veteran weeb after all)

Then someone stood up and began hotly protesting Ishtar's words. That someone was Aiko-sensei.

"You can't possibly be serious! You're telling these children to go fight in a war!? That's absolutely unacceptable! As a teacher, I cannot allow it! Send us back right this instant! These kids all have families back home who must be worried sick! You can't just kidnap them like this!"

Each of her words contained anger as she cared a lot about her students, making her popular among students. But then, Ishtar's next words freezed everyone.

"I understand your feelings, however... I am unable to return you to your world at present,"

Silence filled the room. The oppressive atmosphere was felt by everyone present. We all stared at Ishtar blankly, unable to properly process what he had just said. I started to feel irritated about this, but somehow I expected this as this was cliche in most mangas or light novels that I've read.

"Wh-What do you mean... you're unable to get us back home!? If you called us here, you should be able to send us back, shouldn't you!?" Aiko-sensei screamed loudly.

"As I stated earlier, it is Lord Ehit who summoned you here. The only reason we were in that room at all was to greet you heroes, and to offer up our prayers to Lord Ehit. We humans do not possess the power to interfere with other worlds, so whether or not you can return also depends on his will."

"N-No way..."

Aiko-sensei slumped back into her chair, all the strength drained out of her. The other students all started yelling as the truth of Ishtar's words sank in.

"You've gotta be kidding me right? What do you mean we can't go back!?"

"Send us back now! Or I will rape your wife!" (E/N: I know who this is, do you know who this is? :D)

"A war? You can't be serious! Take us the fuck back right now!"

"This can't be happening, this can't be happening, this can't be happening..."

Everyone started to panic and I saw Sakura starting to tremble, so I patted her shoulder to calm her down, then she suddenly hugged me and started to cry softly and I patted her back. In my opinion, I was irritated but also glad that this wasn't the worst scenario, which for my opinion is where all of the summoned ones would be cursed or obligated to fight for the summoners and then turn into slaves.

Ishtar watched silently at the students but I could see his face were like "You were all chosen by Lord Ehit, why aren't you rejoicing?" or something like that. Damn, I wanted to punch his face right now.

Then Kouki stood up and slammed his fist down to the table and gathered everyone's attention. Once he confirmed that everyone's eyes were on him, he said.

"Everyone, there's no point in complaining to Ishtar. There's nothing he can do about it now. And... And I, at least, have decided to stand and fight. These people are about to be annihilated. Knowing that, how can I possibly leave them to such a tragic fate? And besides, if we've been summoned here to save humanity, it's possible we'll be allowed to go back once we've saved them... Well, Ishtar-san? Do you think that's possible?"

"It is as you say. Lord Ehit is not so unkind that he would ignore a request from his chosen heroes."

"And we've all gained some amazing powers, right? Ever since I arrived here, it's felt like I've somehow grown way stronger."

"Yes, that is correct. It would be safe to assume that each of you has the equivalent strength of anywhere from a few to few dozen regular men."

"Alright, then we should be fine. I'm going to fight. If we save everyone, then we can go home. So just watch! I'm going to save everyone, including us!" Kouki clenches his fists tightly as he proclaims his noble intentions, flashing an almost sickeningly dazzling smile at the end.

At the same time, his charisma has taken almost all of the students, except me, Hajime and Sakura, as they moved closer towards me. The students calmed down and looked at Kouki as if he was their source of hope itself. Most of the female students had adoration mixed into their gaze as well.

I don't know why, but when I heard his proclamation, I started to feel more irritated for some reason, but I soon composed myself. Then I heard the usual quartet started gathering around him.

"Heh, knew you'd say that. Still, I'd be worried about letting you go off on your own... Which is why I'm coming with you."

"Ryuutarou..."

"Looks like that's the only choice we have right now. It pisses me off that we don't get any real say in the matter, but... I'll help too."

"Shizuku..."

"I-If Shizuku-chan's going to fight, then I will too!"

"Kaori..."

The usual quartet was Kouki, Ryuutarou, Shizuku and Kaori. Sakagami Ryutarou, he has a bear type physique. He has short trimmed hair and a gaze that appears both cheerful and stern, the perfect character for the protagonist's best friend.

The next was Yaegashi Shizuku. She is a beautiful woman with waist-length black hair that is usually tied up in a ponytail with bangs hanging over her forehead and red eyes. She was like the best friend of the main heroine.

They were like an inseparable group of friends who got isekai'd at the same time. And at the same time, all the students followed the flow and started to join Kouki's group and agreed to fight. Aiko-sensei seemed troubled and implored them to stop, but Kouki's charisma was so high that made her powerless from him taking all the students with him.

So I went to her and patted her head, as she was shorter than me, and said it would probably be okay, as they were making their own decisions, so they should be responsible for it. But I managed to calm her down and she felt irritated that I treated her like a kid, but I just laughed at her.

In the end, everyone agreed to help fight in this world's war. However, I am sure that most of the students probably had no idea what war was really like, nor did they even want to know it. In a sense, they might have just been trying to escape from reality to preserve their own sanity.

In the corner of my eyes, I noticed that Ishtar was monitoring Kouki. He even said the tragedy that had befallen to Humans and he emphasized the cruelty and brutality of the demons. As expected, due to Kouki's strong "Sense of Justice", he reacted quickly to his words. It made obvious that Ishtar had seen through Kouki's personality, so he was easier to manipulate.

I took a mental note to watch out for him, I looked at the side and saw that Hajime was also looking at me and we nodded. It seems he also had the same opinion as me.

Regardless, since "We" decided that we should help to fight against demons, we now have to learn how to fight, because no matter how amazing powers everyone got, we were still high school students that had been living in a peaceful era without conflict like war. As it would definitely be impossible for us to start fighting against monsters without proper training.

This also includes me because despite knowing some magecrafts and the supernatural side of my previous world, I don't have real experience in real fighting, much less to fight to death.

However, it seems Ishtar was prepared for this as well, since he explained to us that we were going to the Heiligh Kingdom, which was at the foot of the divine mountain. And we are currently in the head of the Holy Church that was at its summit.

The pope also explained that the Heiligh Kingdom had very close ties with the Holy Church-according to legend, one of Ehit's progeny, Sharam Vaan, had founded the kingdom. Of all the human kingdoms, it was apparently the one with the richest history. The fact that the Church's most sacred temple was in the kingdom's backyard spoke volumes about how deep their connection ran.

We were now heading to the temple's front gate. We were about to start our journey in the kingdom below us. As we walked through the grand triumphal arcs that comprised the main gate of the temple, we were greeted by an endless sea of clouds.

I was surprised at how high we were now. I looked at the side and noticed that the others' reactions were the same. Apparently, no one, including me, had suffered from altitude sickness, so we didn't realize how high we were. I could also feel a lot of mana around here, so I guess they were using magic on the environment to make the area around the temple habitable.

I looked at the old pope and he was looking proudly as everyone was surprised, before telling everyone to proceed. As we continued walking, we came upon a massive white circular pedestal that was surrounded by a fence. We walked through a lavish hallway made of the same white stone as the cathedral and stepped up onto the pedestal.

Engraved within the stone of the pedestal was a large magic circle. On the other side of the fence layed a steep drop to the clouds below, so most of the students huddled as close to the centre of the pedestal as they could. But they were unable to restrain their curiosity, and timidly glanced around their surroundings despite their fear. As we were looking around, Ishtar began to chant,

"Faith is the key that opens the road to heaven—Celestial Path."
