Chapter 5: Betrayal

Lycen and his team were back in the city, selling off the loot they had acquired from the tower. They had just finished making a hefty profit when they were approached by a woman in a cloak.

"I heard you were the team that defeated the tower," she said, her voice low and husky. "I have a proposition for you."

Lycen eyed her warily. "What kind of proposition?""I need you to retrieve a powerful artifact from a nearby dungeon," she replied. "I am willing to pay handsomely for its retrieval."

Lycen glanced at his team, who all looked intrigued by the offer. "What kind of artifact?"

"It's a powerful staff that belonged to a sorceress," the woman explained. "She was once a powerful mage, but she became corrupted by her own power and began using it for evil. The staff is the only thing that can contain her magic, and I need it to prevent her from wreaking havoc on the world."

Lycen nodded slowly. "And what's in it for us?""I'll pay you double what you made from the tower," the woman promised. "And I'll also throw in some rare items I have acquired over the years."

Lycen hesitated, but the thought of the reward was too enticing to resist. "We'll do it," he said, extending his hand to seal the deal.

The woman shook his hand firmly. "Excellent. The dungeon is located to the east. I'll be waiting for your return."

As she turned to leave, Lycen couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off about the woman. But he pushed the thought aside, eager to embark on a new adventure.The team made their way to the dungeon, battling through hordes of monsters and traps to reach the artifact. The sorceress raised an eyebrow, "And what makes you think that I would help you?"

Lycen took a step closer, "Because you're the only one who can help us. You're the most powerful sorceress in the land, and we need your magic to defeat the darkness."The sorceress studied Lycen for a moment before nodding, "Very well, I will help you. But you must promise me one thing."

Lycen nodded, "We promise."
