"More money... we need more money," Liam muttered as he sat down on a large chunk of solid ice, feeling the cold seep through his body while he gasped for breath.
Looking back on what had just happened, a wave of fear finally washed over him. If it weren't for the luck of obtaining a demigod body from Cain earlier, he wouldn't have dared to fight so recklessly. Otherwise, things could have gotten really bad.
Although he still felt sharp pain from his wounds, thanks to the adrenaline pumping through his veins, it wasn't enough to make him pass out. As long as he wasn't killed instantly, the regenerative ability of his demigod body would ensure he remained undefeated.
Many believe that growth and change in a person are gradual processes. In reality, they are often fleeting moments, sometimes happening in the blink of an eye.
This world, despite its peaceful appearance, is rife with hidden bloodshed and chaos. Liam had only been in this world for half a month, yet through battle after battle, he had quickly become part of it. So much so that he hadn't even noticed the shift in his mindset—he wasn't the least bit panicked when facing life and death against the divine servants.
"Let me see... Tsk, there's still more than an hour left."
"Three hours... You guys should be able to make it back, right? If some so-called 'Fifth Realm' expert comes over, I might not be able to handle that."
Talking to himself, Liam tried to divert his attention to lessen the pain from his wounds. The puncture wounds on his body still looked quite terrifying.
At that moment, Liam accidentally noticed the staircase leading to the underground entrance. The entry, long since covered in thick ice, was eerily silent. Liam had always worried about whether someone would suddenly rush out to help him fight. If that happened, should he even bother about their lives?
If any students really came out, with their current strength, it would be practically suicidal. The gap in power was just too vast. Fortunately, the top students were rational enough not to do anything that reckless.
Lost in his thoughts, Liam's injuries had mostly healed. His ability to hear the voices of all things had also detected the newest wave of enemies.
"Sigh, looks like the last hour won't be easy either!"
Liam leaped up and landed on a massive throne of ice. Various weapons made of frost floated around him, awaiting the arrival of the next wave of enemies. Stretching his body and feeling its current state, Liam suddenly burst into a hearty laugh.
"This really is like the legendary Dragon City generals—never letting the Hu horse cross the Yin Mountains!"
"Awesome! This feels just like being in a movie."
"Never thought I'd have such a cool moment. Too bad no one's here to see it. Damn!"
With that, the ice under his feet shifted, propelling him towards the newly arrived enemies.
Boom!
Near the artificial river, a five-meter-tall giant statue bathed in red light moved, swinging a massive fist down towards a heavily wounded superhuman.
Whoosh!
The sharp sound of something cutting through the air rang out as Sophia's figure flashed by, her massive ice sword shattering the giant statue and rescuing the superhuman.
Holding onto the superhuman by his collar, Sophia leaped onto a relatively flat piece of ground.
"War Goddess, forget about us for now! Stop the god's descent!" The superhuman warrior coughed out more blood but, seeing who had saved him, quickly urged her.
Sophia remained silent, merely setting him aside before looking up. The shattered stones on the ground began to reassemble, glowing crimson. Several divine servants were controlling the statue. In the distance, a group of sacrificial divine servants was conducting a god's descent ritual, just like what Liam had seen before.
To speed up the process, many black-robed sacrificial divine servants had already begun committing suicide to forcefully accelerate the ritual.
"Take care of yourself. If you can still move, try to run. Your life is the most important," Sophia advised him. She knew, however, that this was wishful thinking.
As far as her eyes could see, severely wounded superhumans and divine servants lay everywhere. It was hard to imagine how many of them would survive.
Today, the sheer number of divine servants was overwhelming, and their own manpower was spread thin.
Battles between superhumans and divine servants usually didn't involve large numbers; after all, once the god's descent was successful, low-level superhumans were essentially cannon fodder.
Sophia pushed her hands forward, unleashing a torrent of icy energy. Overwhelming ice shattered all the stone giants controlled by the divine servants in an instant, before sweeping over the divine servants themselves.
Sophia's Ice Age had a truly unstoppable momentum. The divine servants in front of her were instantly obliterated, unable to withstand even a second.
Yet, when the advancing ice was about to engulf the god's descent ritual, it seemed to crash into an invisible wall, scattering in all directions.
Two figures glowing with a bronze hue stood in front of the ice, spitting out blood in unison. Yet, they did not take a step back, allowing the ritual to continue.
These two were Fifth Realm divine servants!
Even though Sophia, at the peak of the Fifth Realm, could crush them in terms of strength, if they were determined to hold their ground with their lives, Sophia wouldn't be able to do much in a short time.
Suddenly, both men looked up, revealing eerie smiles. A sliver of golden light emerged from their mouths and noses, soaring into the sky. Then, they collapsed, lifeless, onto the ground.
In the sky, a golden figure slowly materialized—a creature with a bull's head and a human body, wings sprouting from its back, emanating a divine yet chilling presence.
Nearby neighborhoods could see this terrifying yet sacred figure. All those who accidentally glimpsed it were first shocked and then appeared dazed, as if in a trance. Some even fell to their knees, their eyes empty as they worshiped.
Dong Wushuang, Zhong Jing, Zhong Liwu, Cain...
Every top superhuman currently engaged in battle noticed the problem at this location. The first god had descended among the eight divine fetuses!
"Xiao Yi! Has a god descended on your side? Do you need reinforcements?" Cain's anxious voice crackled through the earpiece. The scenario they dreaded most had finally occurred.
"It's alright. It's not a full descent. They weren't prepared enough—it's just a divine projection."
"I can handle it. You all focus on stopping the other gods from descending."
After saying this, Sophia squeezed her earpiece with her fingers, crushing it. She floated into the air as ice gathered beneath her, forming a massive ice dragon that carried her upward.
She glanced at her watch. Two hours and twenty minutes had passed...
"The man I've set my sights on... his life or death is still unknown..."
"The time I promised is nearly up... I don't care what kind of god you are! Just die for me!"
