"Cousin?" I squeak. Knowing my luck, they'll turn out to be Satan's spawns.
Meredith nods and we stroll through the sliding doors, till we're in front of the giggling children who are blowing bubbles into each other's faces. "Ambrose!" Meredith calls and a girl with fair golden hair spins around, flashing a crooked smile at us. "Come meet your cousin Ronnie."
The little girls run overs, donned in a jean shorts and a baseball tee. She stops to examine me. "Hi," she breathes. "You look like us," she giggles like it's the funniest thing in the world and I awkwardly laugh a long with her.
"Yeah, we do."
"That's because she's auntie Elizabeth's daughter," Meredith smooths a hand down my hair and I tense at the motherly gesture. "She'll be staying with us for a while."
"Really?" The little girl shrieks. I think I've gone deaf. "Cool! You can play with Mia and Jacob and me. Their are cousins too," Ambrose gushes and I nod stiffly.
