Madeleine didn't give Ruby Gregory any chance to speak; she just pushed Ruby out of Howard Coleman's apartment and then, as if she had lost all her strength, leaned against the door, her eyes wide open, staring fixedly at the wide French windows right opposite her.
Her eyes, red and swollen from crying, were now surprisingly clear, without a single tear streaming down.
Madeleine had been leaning against the door for quite some time before she slowly stood up, returned to the master bedroom, took a bath, changed into clean clothes, and left the house.
Upon arriving at the company, Madeleine handled her work and then locked her office door from the inside.
