04| Chapter

We went to find a nice spot to sit and stare at the stars. The weariness from all that running around and playing finally caught up to me and I was left with a feeling of fatigue. I laid on Caleb's shoulder trying not to fall asleep. I wanted to be with him for as long as I could. I looked at Caleb and saw he was looking at me. Our eyes were locked on one another. Our hearts were racing, almost in sync, as our faces drew closer together. A kiss. The first and last kiss we'd share. After some time, our faces drifted apart, though not too far. "I love you," Caleb said as his eyes shone in the pale moonlit night. It was beautiful yet had an air of sadness about it. "I love you, Iris Jaegar. I have and always will love you. Even if we can't be together, I'll still love you." I could feel the heat from my face as it lit up brighter than the nearby fireflies or the moon. I turned away from him but after a while, my face was returning to normal and I turned back to face him. "I-I lo-" Suddenly I was hit with a wave of drowsiness. I was slowly losing consciousness but I was determined to tell him. I wanted to tell him. I needed to tell him. I've been wanting to tell him for years, and now was my only chance. "H-Hap-py birt-hd-ay C-Caleb. I-I, I lo-ve you..."
