"Jake?"
Kaiden reclined on his stool and drew in a handful of breath before wheezing out some air. He understood what she meant by her question. He had to make a decision there and then.
"I don't know what to say to that, Nessa."
"It's fine," She pouted her mouth, and looked away. Again.
"I'm not done yet."
She looked back at him.
"Let's see. Maybe a couple of days isn't going to hurt us, is it?"
Vanessa shut her lids and opened them up again.
"Then I guess my visit to the Hamburrs is going to have to wait," Kaiden said.
"Are you sure?"
"Just until you are fit enough to get out of this bed by yourself."
"Okay," She smiled weakly, and Kaiden excused himself to go bring in her mom.
"Thank you," She mumbled before he walked out of there.
