Chapter 10

Rothchild was a small town some two-hundred miles away and the perfect place for Joseph Barker to hide out in. Earlier that night he’d eaten a rare steak with potatoes on the side and a number of beers to wash it all down; his waitress, a redhead named Anna, took a real liking to him, smiling and even winking before putting his order in. But when she emerged from the kitchen after taking his empty plate back, he was gone and all that remained was the exact change for the bill.

Joseph had made for the town hotel across the road, where he went up to his room to find the other four of his gang waiting for him. Two were standing, leaning on walls, while the other two were seated in chairs. On the bed rolled out was a drawing of a massive building, the sketch damn near went off the page.

“How we doin boys,” Joseph said, lighting up a cigarette.
