Chapter 32. A new resolve
Ezra smiled back, releasing her hand and stepping away to give her back some distance. He had noticed her flinch at this touch but he had felt compelled to comfort her in some small way regardless.
He had lived a long life and as a vampire there were few who could truly hurt him in a physical sense. And yet, it was the desperate loneliness he had felt throughout his too long life that created a sense of connection to the wounded woman in front of him. There were times where he had felt a similar connection to others he had cared for throughout the years, but as these were human relationships, they were fleeting for him, their lives coming to end whilst Ezra remained.
