What am I?

I was puzzled, stunned even. Another one of my kind? I'm just a human not some skeleton. I thought in this odd moment. Even though he had no skin on his face I could somehow tell he was smiling. Just what is this guy? What is happening right now?

"I'll make this easier for you."

He brought up his finger and a small light came and washed over me.

I was in my body again and no longer a wisp.

"Whoa!" I exclaimed.

"What's the matter?! This is your body!" he laughed.

He was right this was my body, but something was different. It was like the air around me was lighter, and my armor changed. Alive I was wearing the Captain's plate armor with a lion on the chest plate, with a red scarf that the king's wife gave me for good luck. In death, my armor was different. Instead of being shiny metal, it was black and my scarf had turned white.

"I'll ask again. Do you want to save him?" he insisted.

"How could I save him? I'm dead, I've already failed him." I stated.

"You aren't human and have become more powerful in death. You have two choices. The first is to become what you were destined to and kill their general. You can also decide to go to heaven or hell and be peaceful for the rest of eternity knowing your king died."

"How do I save him? What exactly am I?" I said, clutching my fist.

"You, my child are a reaper. I will tell you right now, the general from your opposing country isn't human either. He is a high level demon posing as a human to further his advances. He is powerful, you may not win as I do not know your power as a reaper. I'll let you choose to save him. Reach out and feel your soul wrap around your hand, you'll find your answer there."

I outstretched my arm, envisioning my soul around my hand like instructed. Nothing happened.

"Close your eyes, use the power you were given in death."

"Okay". I said.

Closing my eyes, I could feel the warmth wrap around me. I opened them and a scythe was in my hand. It was long, the wooden handle being the deepest black I had ever seen. The blade was long, the metal being thick, but noticeably sharp.

"Good. Now go, save them all.
