“Of course. That’s dreadful to leave a child under that torment. So social services didn’t do anything?”
“No. They could probably see that there was something going on, but with no solid proof, what were they going to do? We slipped through the net, and unfortunately, we won’t have been the only children that that happened to. So it was me and Drew against my mother’s world, and we had to put up and shut up until we could get out.”
“But what happened to sour yours and Drews relationship? I’ve heard a couple of times from you, when you’ve been speaking to him, that his variation of ‘help’ wasn’t exactly helpful to you…”
“Well, when we left home, I was young and naïve and I let Drew lead the way. I had no other option, but some of Drew’s life choices weren’t exactly the best…”
“Knowing what I know now… it really isn’t any wonder why.” I sighed.
