Antonia sat forward, leaning her elbows on the desk and clasping her hands in front of her. “His brother was never a good influence. Jace, in his younger years, was taken along for the ride by him. I could see how vulnerable Jace was, and while I’m never usually that bothered about outsiders trying to take advantage, as they’ll pay the price one way or another, there was something about him that I took to.”
“So what happened? You’ve known him a lot longer than I have. I’ve heard nothing about his background. It seems he doesn’t tell me much,” I huffed.
“Jace isn’t the bad guy that you may be painting him to be. Let’s just say that all those years ago, I could see how vulnerable he was. Throwing caution to the wind and going against my own upbringing, I helped him. It didn’t go down well, but I did. Later on, when one of my family were in trouble, he repaid the favour. Due to the aforementioned favour, I owe him a lot.”
“So why doesn’t he ever tell me any of this?” I urged.
