Experimentation

"Weapons?"

Continuing to test out the weapons, ignoring Anastasia's question, Jack was more focused on the rare surprisingly flexible, and strong material. A weapon made out of a material that is not only flexible but also strong enough to stop a bullet. It would, of course, make someone interested.

But seeing as how everyone was already tired from today's fighting, all Jack did was pick up four of the spears to take them with him. Anastasia wanted to say something but she decided not to, as she remembered what had just happened.

And before the guards had even arrived, Jack and Zain had already left the third division building.

"Why are you taking those things, old man?"

"For research...I want to know if they can last a while away from her body"

The next day, Jack and Zain met up in front of a particularly run-down building, inside of the core. Unlike most other buildings in sight that had been even remodeled to better accommodate the members of the demon force, this building was uncharacteristically dirty and dusty.

Jack could only be reminded of the same building he had visited the day before.

However, instead of going inside, Jack and Zain waited outside until a young man approached them after running out of breath. Exhausted with dark bags under his eyes, the man then proceeded to stand up straight with his back firm, facing both Jack and Zain.

Positioning both his hands behind his back, he saluted the two.

"I'm Klein, from logisti-"

"Yeah, yeah, no need for all of the formalities", Zain said annoyed at the fact, he needed to wait for almost an hour.

"Haha, don't mind it", Jack returning to his usual carefree nature, didn't mind it too much.

With the greetings out of the way, Klein started to explain what was going on. Mentioning the fact that this was to be used as the main base of operations for division five. Nothing other than that was worthed to hear for the two men.

"So, when is the cleaning going to be done?"

"That would be in a week at most, commander"

"Is that so? Then take care of it, Klein"

Leaving after the boring meeting, instead of going into the third division building, Jack headed back to his apartment, picking up the four spears before finally heading to meet the demonic humans.

On the way there, however, Jack couldn't help but feel tired and stressed.

'2 months.'

He had no time, there was no procedure, and he had nothing that could save him, right now. However, even then, he wasn't scared.

This was what he had wished for.

Arriving at the third lower floor of the third division building, Jack and Zain met up with Sarah who was seemingly taking a break in the hall. Noticing the both of them, Sarah couldn't help but jump up. Rushing at them like a caretaker seeing the parents finally come back home, she immediately hugged the both of them.

Jack didn't mind but Zain pushed her back.

"You guys, are finally here."

"Hmm?", Confused at her unusual actions, Jack was wondering what in the world was going on.

And once he looked inside the same room as before, he could somewhat tell what had happened. Seeing as though Lily was jumping all around the room, seemingly searching for something.

Preparing himself by grabbing firmly onto one of the spears, Jack activated his demonic powers, as he made his way inside of the room.

However, the moment he did, Lily was able to sniff his presence.

Immediately lunging at him, Jack who was surprised by the sudden attack, almost pierced Lily's head. Noticing the lack of bloodlust, however, he decided to stop his attack. Only to be thrown to the ground as Lily snuggled her head into his chest.

"What is going on?"

Confused at the situation, Jack couldn't help but stare down at the rest of the children in the room who out of fear, started to explain the situation.

"So Lily has the tendencies of a wolf, and it is said that they at many times follow the leader who has proven that they had the strength and leadership to lead the group."

Hearing the explanation, Jack couldn't help but feel exhausted.

"Lily get off and sit on your chair"

"Ok"

Without resorting or saying anything else, Lily just stood up and headed towards her seat. Happily sitting down, like a child waiting for a treat.

'Oh, this is nice.'

Standing up, after the sudden lunge, Jack followed Lily and patted her head. It wasn't a sign of love or anything, it was only to reinforce her actions with positive feedback. With everyone finally calmed and in their seats, Jack gathered everyone around and started to explain.

"From now on, we will be testing the different uses of your abilities"

Confused, the others couldn't help but wonder what they would do. After all, all of them were expected to be trained similarly to a soldier.

"We have two months, this is for the best, in terms of our future survival."

Separating all of the demonic humans into their own separate rooms, the testing of their abilities started to take place.

Demonic humans and enhanced humans had many simple clear differences, however, the one that stood out the most was their abilities. Enhanced humans were capable of utilizing powers that would be capable of defeating the demon they fought, or something similar to the opposite of the ability of the demon.

Thus conquering the fear.

However, demonic humans, on the other hand, assimilated the powers of the demon, being capable of utilizing powers similar to them. In Jack's case, he would have been capable of blinding people instead of increasing the abilities in his eyes if he was a demonic human.

And although demonic humans are capable of greatly utilizing more outstanding and powerful abilities, they still come with a large downfall. Becoming a demonic human was a risk in itself.

Enhanced humans were created by injecting the demon's blood into the veins of those that had some part in defeating the demon. The only requirement for obtaining this power was having at least some involvement in the killing of the demon and the process was guaranteed.

Demonic humans on the other hand were created by eating the meat of the demon.

It was similar to attempting to absorb the nutrients of the demon meat. Unlike enhanced humans, however, being involved in its death wasn't necessary. All one needed to do was eat its meat. However, this, of course, didn't come without its risks.

Over the past few years the third division had been continuously investigating the requirements for converting someone into a demonic human but other than having a similarity to the demon, nothing else was ever discovered.

Lily was able to become a demonic human thanks to her feral nature similar to that of the wolf demon.

The string demon was cowardly, quick to panic, and a secluded caterpillar which was similar to Anastasia.

The balloon demon on the other hand was captured by the demon force, and it yearn for freedom and to sour the skies, similarly to Stefen who was fascinated about the outside world.

Carl, on the other hand, had little to no similarities to the bearded demon, regarding him as an abnormality.

However, even the similarities were a sort of random guess or a theory to be more exact.

it also wasn't an exaggeration to say, that only less than 1% of the conversions actually succeeded. Most of the other test subjects, would either just die or transform into uncontrollable monsters that would need to be shot down.

The risks were all just too large to justify the results, however, under the guise of creating a weapon to help humanity, the creation of demonic humans continued.

First test subject - Lily Degarcia

The experiments carried out in the lab, were simple, to say the least. All one needed to do was see the limits of each ability the demonic human possessed.

In Lily's case, three important factors were being tested, her sense of hearing and smell, and the power of her shadow claws.

After a few hours of testing, it was discovered that Lily's sense of hearing and smell had exponentially increased, to the point of even surpassing the capabilities of hunting a dog. Lily's shadow claws, on the other hand, showed even greater power than before, however, due to the test subject's low intelligence it seemed as though she wasn't able to fully utilize them.

Lily's shadow claws, worked in a simple manner, Lily was able to create a large shadowy mass that took the form of a wolf's body part. The shadows created were not only bulletproof, but they also provided the user with even greater power.

Using the shadows on her legs allowed her to have an explosive amount of speed and agility that was incomparable to anything she had ever shown. Creating a pair of wolf ears allowed her even better hearing, and creating a shadow on her eyes allowed her even better eyesight.

Basically, it allowed her to have the same capabilities as a wolf but on a higher level. The main issue Jack and the researchers found, was Lily's lack of intelligence during the tests.

Lily possessed incredible capacities thanks to her demonic abilities inherited from the wolf demon, however, she had no idea how to use them.
