Times Hand

The year was 2050 when nuclear war broke out, billions of people died within the first year alone, and the world as people knew it was completely gone. Scientist from the countries of America, Britain, Germany, and Japan got together to attempt to find a way to prevent mutual destruction from the war. When they came up with the answer. If humans couldn’t live on earth we would just have to live on the closest choice, the moon. Of course just because we had left didn’t meant the radiation didn’t affect us before we left.

Arriving at the base

Waking the next morning I report to role call where I am the only person standing in the landing bay for the ATL 3rd squad with only one person watching here it is clear both the opinion of everyone on the importance in the eyes of others this place has, which is to say none as even the hanger has rust and looks decrepit though still functional.

Finally an hour after they are meant to be here the air ship arrives and it is the oldest model of aircraft I have ever seen still functioning, hell the propulsion pieces still have rubber case and carved serial number back when humans still did that before energy signatures and non-dangerous propulsion methods where discovered, it was like looking at a living fossil truly both impressive and terrifying especially since I am going to be riding in it.

Finally the people come out and the man is a man with disheveled uniform and beyond appropriate hair length for a front line fighter his uniform signifies he is.

His black hair and hairs with dark tan skin and black stains all over signify him as a low born planet person and most likely a emergency repair person, he has a beard with a stubble above his lip making it clear he doesn't bother to up keep any part of himself.

The man steps in front of me and says, "What you fuck up or with to end up with us? Ha we got a shock when a student from this school was assigned to us as usually we only ever see delinquents."

I knew that this is probably the squad of the man who sent me to this school but for him to be in this squad meant there must be something wrong with him, maybe the terrorist was his twin and he sold his brother out or something. Anyway I am already here as long as I serve the forced 20 year service I can be transferred to a more safe and secure position in the main planet as is guaranteed for all anti-terrorist units no matter which one you are.

I ignore his question and climb into the ship with little fanfare before buckling in for safety, the man chuckles and closes the hatch behind him before going up front to the cockpit, a sudden jerk and booming sound indicates our send off.

I feel both sick and utterly overwhelmed with this, slowly I readjust but I keep tight grip on the straps holding me down.

As we descend the feeling of floating comes before slamming back down in my chair when the boom of the propulsion things aim at the ground while we land roughly, the man leaves the cockpit and seems amused at my current situation as if he expected it.

I want to curse him out but if I open my mouth I will throw up all over myself so simply try and reorientate myself.

Finally after a few minutes I undo my straps and leave the ship the first sight that greets me is the man I met in the interrogation room standing next to a woman with bright fuchsia hair and eyes along with a modest rack with a upkept and perfectly worn uniform with badges on it and pads on her shoulders.

The drastic difference in those in this squad was wild, shaking myself I put a hand over my heart in a salute and stand in perfect form waiting for the higher ranking people to give orders as is proper.

The man from the interrogation finally speaks to me for the first time in three years, " I am the leader of this squad and a Colonel you will be a part of my time starting today, failure to obey, keep perfect hygiene, or keep tidy will be harshly punished and do not expect just because you are a healer you are excused from physical training. Welcome Private Manson from this point forward you will call me colonel Carson be prepared for training at 6 sharp tomorrow morning."

With that he and the woman left leaving me with the disheveled man who looks both curious and nervous by what just took place, he shows me to my quarters that are single room due to being a medic and stricter hygiene requirements allow me this luxury despite my lacking ranking.

I put my uniforms away and change into clean clothes after bathing in the public shower location, laying down I set an alarm for 5 O'clock too make sure I make it to training on time.

The next morning I am at the training field after asking another soldier to point the way, I stay here in position until colonel Carson comes and orders me to stretch out and prepare to run the obstacle course at the highest setting.

This is just the start and I already know it will be hell.
