Long ago, in a land devoid of basic necessities, where even children had to struggle to survive, struggle for their food, struggle for power to stand on their own, everyone was simultaneously on their own and depending on each other.

If it came to sharing their berries with someone who could exchange for some meat they would happily oblige, offer some meat in advance, or even offer some for free, in the spirit of humanity but if there was only one piece of meat left for the two of them, the same two people that were happily bartering would devolve into a group of crooked animals, fighting until one of them couldn't move or bled to death.
