About Biocore

Days in the academy slowly turned to nights uneventfully. The rangers were excited about the biocore implant they just had.

The academy board had had a meeting and voted unanimously for all rangers to get the biocore implant.

They can then go ahead and pick top tier rangers to train to join the Seal Squad, the most advanced soldiers on the globe.

Biocore implants became popular, and news about it spread beyond the academy walls.

This piece of technology was discovered by Professor Gerald, the leading scientist at Shing Academy, two years ago.

A year ago, in a round table Congress with government officials and high-ranking military officials, Professor Gerald announced his invention.

Biocore won Professor Gerald a noble prize. Only government officials and selected military officials were allowed to get the implant.

Professor Gerald, the secret creator of Zen, had been trying to recreate Zen, a gift he wanted to give to his favourite cousin, Kim Ham Hori, to protect him in battle.

The wristband had arrived after Kim Hori had been deployed to fight the Hellhounds, and he didn't live to try out Zen.

Professor Gerald concluded he had lost such precious technology and had been trying to recreate it, but for some reason, he failed.

The biocore, in other words, is the aftermath of a failed research, but a big step forward for humanity.

Those whose bodies can't handle the implant begin melting from the inside-out after three days of administration.

For those whose bodies are compatible with the faire, they ended up unlocking unique abilities in three days.

These abilities were popularly known as Faire.

People from beyond the walls of Shing District had tried laying their hands on the secret to the ability shot but haven't been able.

Spys had infiltrated the academy as students seeking for these abilities to be bestowed upon them.

Young students from colonies outside the Shing district would submit applications hoping to get into Shing Military Academy.

The Shing district High council had passed down regulations for the use of abilities within the Shing district. Within these regulations included that only soldiers and government officials were allowed to possibly exhibit abilities.

Lin had been looking forward to this day. It was his first outing with his friends away from classes, his trainings and the academy schedule, and he planned to spend it with his two closest friends, Feng and May. They had planned to meet up at the park that Saturday, enjoy the sunshine, and catch up on everything that had been going on in their lives.

Lin had spent the previous days attending classes and training hard.

Lin had the Tournament of Honours approaching fast, and he knew he couldn't be more prepared for it.

Lin had signed up for the tournament, and after rumours about him knocking two rangers, unconscious was spread through the academy. This is an opportunity for him to climb up the ranks.

Lin had spent his mornings running laps around the school, even before the rest of the school woke up to begin their day. He had trained in his mind construct everyday for the past five days and repeated the training physically so that his body got used to it.

Zen's worksheet also included physical workouts, which Lin was to follow religiously as Zen would always keep a record of his performance, pushing him to his limits and rewarding him for every accomplished achievement.

As Lin arrived at the park, he saw Feng and May already there, laughing and chatting with each other.

Lin had gone to the academy gym that morning and had told Feng not to wait up.

Feng and May spotted him and waved him over, and Lin couldn't help but smile as he walked towards them. He was happy to be spending time with his friends, especially May.

They haven't had any serious conversation since the day she helped accompany him to classes after his injury, yet he sees her every night in his mind construct as Zen's physical form during training.

Lin, Feng, and May spent the next few hours talking about their classes, the training, and how exhausting the training was.

They had a picnic which May had brought with her, and just enjoyed each other's company. It was a beautiful day, and the park was filled with families and groups of friends enjoying the warm weather.

"Is it convenient that May was the one to come rescue you when you were literally at the verge of death, and now she is feeding you?" Feng teased Lin.

May's face was covered with blush,"stop it!," she said as she slapped Feng on the back gently.

"Now she has seen me battered and have seen me hungry, I wouldn't have to hide those from her anymore," Lin replied, his eyes twinkling.

"Woah! You sly!"Feng laughed.

May was now blushing hard. She covered her face with her palms.

"You are so silly," she teased.

"By the way, I am still terrible at Mecha combat simulations. Even May is better than I am, "Feng had said, switching the topic.

"You said I would get better at it, but it doesn't seem to be working," Feng finished, frustration washing over him.

"Will you like to train with me…", Lin asked, putting his hand on his friend's shoulder, "...every morning before morning routines?"

Feng looked up, looking even more frustrated, "Every morning before morning routine? You mean, you wake up to train before 6 am?"

"Yup," Lin replied, a smile playing at his face knowing Feng loves his sleep.

"That will be crazy hard, man, you know I love my sleep," Feng's voice is low and steady.

"...we are kids, we need our sleep to mature into healthy adults." Feng continued trying to avoid plainly saying "No."

"Would you prefer to become a healthy, lazy adult or a strong adult?" Lin replied.

"I would prefer to become a strong adult," May replied, her cheeks still pink.

The three laughed, and Lin continued persuading Feng. Still, he had finally agreed to train with Lin if that was guaranteed to make him better.

As the afternoon wore on, Lin had to leave for a few minutes to get a chocolate bar, but he promised to meet back up with Feng and May later that evening.

"I heard some girls in our class call you sweet Lin because you always had a chocolate bar on you," Feng had told Lin as he stood up to leave.

This had provoked an awkward laughter as Lin locked eyes with May after what Feng had just said.

"What can I say, I have a sweet tooth," Lin said.

He left them at the park, feeling content and happy.
