That we shouldn't have been born. At this point my mother was sobbing hysterically, begging him to stop. Finally, after what seemed like hours but was probably only a couple of minutes, he finally calmed down, but he still stayed angry for a while. Eventually, he walked out of the room, slamming the door loudly as he did. I heard his footsteps walking downstairs, I knew he was heading towards the basement. I waited until I knew that he had made his way downstairs before crawling out from underneath the covers. I looked around the room, trying to figure out where he had gone. I looked over towards my parent's bed, where I noticed my mother laying lifelessly. I quickly ran out of the room and into the bathroom, throwing up on the toilet. Then I rushed back to my parents' room and searched their room frantically for anything that could possibly give me an idea of where they might be hiding. I found nothing though, apart from a piece of paper covered with writing. I picked up the piece of paper and read over what was written. In big letters it read 'don't worry, I'll get rid of these people so we can be together again someday'.

I remember thinking about all those terrible things he had done. He always said that he loved me, but now I wonder if he really meant that. Did he ever really mean that? I was scared of him, I wanted to run away and never look back, but my legs wouldn't listen. I just wanted to be with my mother again. I wanted everything to be back to the way it was before. Before they took her away, before I had to grow up without my best friend. Before my life had changed for the worse. Maybe she really had died somewhere, maybe it had actually happened, maybe she was right there next to me right now. And maybe I would be able to say goodbye to her again.

It hurt.

A tear escaped from my eye as I looked at the piece of paper once more before shoving it in my pocket. I wiped my tears quickly, looking up when I heard a knock at the door. I sighed and pushed myself up from the floor, making my way over to the door and opening it a crack. When I saw who it was I was greeted with a huge grin. "Hey sis!" Her grin grew wider as she stepped into the house. "Hey." I said quietly, closing the door behind her as she walked towards me. "Did mom send you?" I asked as she wrapped her arms around me.
