Disabled, Disfigured Part 2

"Commander Long, Young Master Long, and Mr. Li...I'm sorry to say this, but...Young Mistress Qing Yue won't be able to stand on her feet anymore. Moreover, the injury on her face...she's likely to be...disfigured for life."

The moment Dr. Ren finished his speech, he sighed in relief and weakly slumped against the wall.

Speaking to these gods was draining.

And yet, he still needed to preserve his strength to face their wrath.

To face such a catastrophe, his good fortune for this life must've run out.

The three men were frozen stiff.

There wasn't a trace of emotion to be found on their faces.

But their vacant and dazed eyes spoke volumes of their state of mind.

"What...did you say?" The first to return to his senses was Commander Long.

Grinded by war and gore, the matter of disability and disfigurement, though devastating, didn't hit him as an earth-shattering matter.

"Qing Qing will never be able to walk again? She'll be disfigured for life? Are you saying the advancement in medical practice is a load of crap!?"

If not, how can the da** doctor proclaim Qing Qing will be disabled and disfigured for life?

"Dr. Ren, speak with caution. In today's era, the only untreatable medical conditions are those inherited from birth. Qing Yue only got in a terrible accident. With surgery and therapy, she can fully recover, right?" Long Tian glared at the doctor.

How could he say Li Qing Yue would be disabled and disfigured forever?

In the New World Formation, advancement in technology was the greatest pride of the century.

Even though the accomplishment in the medical practice couldn't rival that of technology, it was still ten times better than the 20s.

Long Tian's gaze slightly shifted to the motionless girl on the hospital bed.

If she woke up and heard such news, how devastated would she be?

He didn't care whether she'd be ugly or be stuck in a chair for life.

He had enough resources to take care of her and support her for life.

But would she take the matter as lightly?

After all, the most important and valuable asset to females were their looks and figures...

"Dr. Ren, look through her report again. I'm sure there's a way to help her recover." His tone this time was two times colder.

"Tian Tian is right. There's bound to be a way to help her recover. Stop dilly-dallying and go look for a method." Commander Long commanded with folded arms.

Dr. Ren swallowed and tightened his grip on the RepCom, but he suppressed the urge to shout.

If he yelled out how hopeless the girl's situation was, wouldn't he only be drawing more fire to himself?

'No...I'll keep my silence and safely leave from here. Either way, I've already made my report. Whether they accept it or not, is up to them.'

"You're right, Commander, Young Master Long. I'll go and discuss Young Mistress Qing Yue's report with the rest of my team. I'm sure we'll find a solution once we combine our intelligence."

"Hmm! You should've done that from the start. Now go!" With a cold snort, the Commander turned his back on the shivering doctor.

"Yes, yes." Heart pounding in his ears, Dr. Ren walked around Long Tian's imposing figure and scurried out the door.

Bang!

The room fell in a tense silence that made Long Tian uncomfortably shuffle his feet.

His gaze went to the silent Li Chen, and he couldn't help but frown.

During the entire conversation with Dr. Ren, Li Chen hadn't spoken a word.

"Uncle Li, don't worry about Qing Yue. Medicine has advanced. She'll get better in time."

"Tian Tian...Yue'er is alive. As a father, when she lay still and motionless, I only prayed for her to wake up. But I forgot...I forgot to pray for her to recover fully. What...what can I co..." What could he complain about?

Li Chen really wanted to say this, but the words wouldn't come out of his mouth.

His daughter gained consciousness as he'd ardently prayed for.

But she'd be disabled and disfigured for life.

In this situation, should he cry in joy for getting her back, or laugh in tears for the pain and suffering he'd have to go through in the future?

Under the scorning and mocking gazes of society, how will she endure such torment and live happily?

As a father, was he too selfish in wanting her back, when maybe leaving would've given her relief?

Li Chen didn't know. And because he didn't know, he was in an even deeper emotional turmoil.

"Brother Li, don't worry about Qing Qing. You have no idea how strong she is." Long Hongwu's eyes glazed over as he recalled that winter evening many years ago.

While his friend sobbingly poured out his heart to him, he didn't know that his daughter stood outside the door.

She'd heard everything.

But contrary to his expectations, the little 10-year-old girl hadn't cried or made a scene.

Instead, she'd sensibly come out to see him off and wished him a safe return.

From that time, Long Hongwu's decision to make her his daughter-in-law had become even firmer.

Only a girl with a heart of steel like her, who didn't fall or shatter under any blow, was worthy of becoming the Young Madam Long.

And so, even though he felt sad and pained to hear Dr. Ren's report, he wasn't as shattered as Li Chen.

Because he had confidence in the willpower of the girl named Li Qing Yue.

A while later, Qing Yue woke to a piercing pain on her face.

"Ah!!!" The pain was so agonizing she felt as if her face was on fire.

Restrained and stripped to the hospital bed, she couldn't move a limb.

But the sensation of her face scorching and wrinkling into hideous folds was too raw, magnified, bone-deep penetrating to ignore.

"Ahhhhh!"

Long Tian, Li Chen, and Long Hongwu had closed their eyes for a bit of rest when they woke to her horrific wails.

Stunned and bewildered, they hastily pushed to their feet in fluster.

"Qing Qing, what's wrong?" Long Hongwu rushed to her left with great anxiety.

"Yue'er, Yue'er! Call the doctor! Get the doctor!" Li Chen rushed to her other side and held her bandaged hand.

Standing at the foot of the bed, Long Tian was nervously staring at the wailing girl.

"I'll get the doctor." He turned and bolted out the door to drag Dr. Ren back to the private ward.

In a matter of seconds, the entire Long Medical Hospital was in alarm as medical staff hastily entered and exited the private ward on the third floor.

"What's going on in there?" Standing outside the private ward, Fang Ying'er's brows were furrowed in deep concern.
