Chapter 29: Intent on Revenge

A few weeks later, I was walking along the pier in Wellport on a brisk morning.

After my injury, I had to tell Dad and Alan the basics of what had happened. I didn’t want to get into the details of my conversation with Xander; I simply said that he had found his way back to his old life and wouldn’t be part of ours anymore.

Dad was crestfallen. Alan had a look that made me think he was slightly glad. Maybe he knew more than I thought.

I felt numb, more of less. I didn’t think of it at all.

The crisp, cool weather along the shore helped me maintain that empty feeling in my head.

Walking up from the end of the pier, I saw someone leaning against a car a few blocks down the road. He had on a pair of sunglasses, but looked like he was watching me.

Pete.

I stopped and stared back, unsure of what he was doing.

With a loose salute, he walked off and disappeared down a side street.
