NORMALCY // DEFINED

I woke up feeling groggy. I feel like I had a dream of some weird square red hole but I didn't really care. So I got up and grabbed a cup and lid and went to my coffee machine. Only to see that there was no coffee. The artificial sunlight for the Earthmovers greenhouses had been flickering a lot lately so food supplies were low and the coffee was all but gone with everyone hoarding stuff. So I went to the fridge and grabbed some eggs and spinach. I put oil on the pan and I started cooking some nice scrambled eggs and spinach for breakfast.

The food was cooked and it tasted pretty good. So with my clothes already on I left my room into the winding metal corridors that were constantly maintained by the Earthmover's engineers because of corrosion and acids and such. I went down the elevator and went outside onto Back Street which was the center of our small Mover town.

Today we were heading to a nearby human-run factory that specialized in building Earthmovers and new kinds of machines unlike most mass producer factories. We needed some supplies after our Earthmover was starting to breakdown and factories always had a surplus of supplies considering they were the engine of the war effort. Right now everyone was racing to create a machine that can take down Earthmover's. Like that could ever happen. The last attempt on that was THR-156 which was an Earthmover model far far larger, smarter, and powerful then normal Earthmovers but it completely disappeared after getting overwhelmed by a bunch Earthmovers so it was too costly. And any human sized machine could never hope to reach the toes of an Earthmover before being blasted into oblivion. Honestly we just need to make more Earthmovers then we'll win with numbers, it's that simple.

Anyways my day to day job is very simple. Patrol around the whole Earthmover outdoors to keep an eye out for other Earthmovers. "Hey Gramps" I said to gramps while he was busy doing construction work. "Hey there! would you like a nice pat on the back with this here crane?!" Aaron replied with vigor. I quickly ran the other way because Gramps never lies and I don't want get hit with a crane.

And so normalcy ensues. I slowly patrol around and small talk with random people.

"So how is the javelin tech going?"

"All systems are functional why do you ask?"

"Just wonde- BOOM

Aw crap another Earthmover just attacked." A massive ray of energy just got deflected by our shield generator I could see the white hot energy dissipating right outside the shield generators range. All the workers radios immediately got flooded with messages telling us to get inside. But I knew better and stayed while most others ran inside. A fight of Earthmovers was a predetermined outcome, a simple matter of who's shield generator lasts the longest. And there is nothing mere mortals like us can do when Movers fight. Because if our Mover loses we all die instantly to the explosion.

For the next 10 hours is was just constant attack and counterattack of attacks who's destructive power could put our nukes to shame. Then as I was watching the other Earthmover just collapsed... Seriously it just collapsed. It's legs gave out and it fell to the ground right after one of its attacks. Our Earthmover didn't even have time to initiate an attack before that.

"I guess it ran out of power" The engineer that I was small talking with earlier said right behind me.

"we should probably get to the factory soon."

"yes" was the only reply I got.
