Not a joke

Lyla is in dilemma at the moment. She's been staring the ceiling for quite some time. Her forehead are covered in sweat and occasionally she scrunched up her face when the pain kicks in. She look at the man sleeping soundly beside her and have been trying to figure out whether she should wake him up or trouble Jake to send her to the hospital. Of course the obvious answer would be waking him up otherwise she don't know until when he's going to sulk about it. She really didn't expect her she would be in labor at this moment. She was expected to give birth next week but it seems her babies prefer to choose their timing a little bit early. Staring at her husband she decided to wake him up when she come to terms that she's going to deliver the baby tonight. Before she could reach her hand towards him, he woke up. Smiling at him, she pat his cheek. Dylan took her hand and kiss it. In his hoarse voice, he asked her.

"Why you're still awake at this time?"

"I seem to be thinking."

"What else could you be thinking?"

"I just remembered we haven't thought of their names yet."

"Who says?" Lyla was surprised. But the sudden pain made her face scrunched up again. Dylan frown, patting her stomach lightly.

"Stop hurting your mother. Let her sleep."

"I didn't know you have a name for them. And i don't think they're going to listen to you tonight. It seems they wanted to go out." Lyla looked at his reaction. Wondering he understood her meaning.

"Well, too bad. They would have to wait until next week. The doctor said so." And it seem he doesn't get it. Probably he just woke up and it's still sleeping hour. Looking at his sleepy eyes, she caressed his rough chin.

"Hubby, i really think they want to go out tonight. They've been giving me warning sign."

"Stop joking around. The doctor said it's going to be next week. It's just one of the false alarm. You're too anxious because it's getting near." With that, Dylan pat her shoulder trying to lulled her to sleep. Lyla was frustrated. Probably she didn't sound urgent enough Dylan just thought she was joking. She had to admit, it might be her fault also because there's been false alarm a couple of times if she overworked herself. But tonight it was different. Just when she was about to tell him again, her water broke making things become messier.

"Dylan, hubby. My water just broke." As soon as Dylan heard her, his eyes automatically flew wide open. He get up hastily and switch on the light inside the room. After the room turns bright, he finally saw his wife situation. She was covered in sweat and once in a while her face would change like holding onto a certain pain. What makes him stunned when he saw the mess from the water broke. He was already pacing to and fro mumbling on the next step that he should do. He knew the steps by heart and memorize them should they encounter this sort of situation. But when the reality hits, his mind just turn blank. Lyla who was watching from the bed can only sigh. This is why she chose to be calm because she doesn't want him to be in panic. Unfortunately, that's not going to happen.

"Braxton,my wife is in labor. What should i do?" The moment she heard him calling Braxton, she slapped her own forehead. This man of hers. Instead of calling Braxton, might as well you call the hospital. She grumbles in her heart. Seeing the panic looking Dylan, she decided to take charge. Slowly, she got up from the bed and trying to ignore the pain. Dylan who saw she was getting up got flustered. He threw his phone aside and went to her.

"Honey, what are you doing? You should stay in bed and don't move around. Who knows what would ha...." His next words were cut when Lyla's small hand covered his mouth.

"Hubby, take a deep breath and calm down. You remember the steps by heart and prepared everything. You should know what to do. For now, help me to the bathroom. I want to clean up before we go to the hospital. I don't feel comfortable in this state. While i'm in the bathroom, you can start preparing the things that are needed to bring to the hospital." Hearing and looking at her calm face, Dylan starts to calm down. Slowly, his mind starts to work properly and finally able to assist her to the bathroom. Instead of leaving her alone in the bathroom, he took charge in cleaning and changing to fresh cloth. After that, he bring her to the sofa and let her sit down while he prepares the rest of the things. He changes his clothe and after he was done, they finally went to the hospital. By the time they reach the hospital, Lyla was having contractions. They were brought to the theater directly and Dylan never left her side even once. Whenever he saw his wife was in so much pain, he starts to get anxious. But he tried to hide it because knowing Lyla, she would get worried seeing him like that and she would be the one who's consoling him. The ordeal last for two hours when finally at 3.28 a.m their first child finally got out. It was a boy and immediately Dylan name him Aiden. The second one was a girl and he called her Layla. A name almost the same as her mother. Last but not least, at 3.32 a.m Ryan was born. Looking at their triplets tears of happiness fall from Lyla's eye. And she manage to hold each of them before finally letting her exhaustion took her. She went to sleep while Dylan handle the rest with the help of the nurse. Usually, at the time like this his mother or Lyla's family members should be there for them but regretfully that's not the case for both of them. In his heart, he felt bitter towards his own family's attitude but that doesn't mean they couldn't get over this challenge. As long as he have Lyla, everything will be alright. And what Dylan forgot they have friends who would filled all the empty spot in their life.
