This American Life (Returning to 2001)

Most authors have the originality and creativeness to invent new worlds and write fantasy. Whether it be isekai, wish-fulfillment, sci-fi, apocalypse or wuxia. I guess I'll stick to being a middling mediocre writer attempting to be stable compromising with life. Regardless the urban life do-over genre is dominated by a chinese asian perspective. Still will be after I start, but perhaps it'll be a fun story to look back on years into the future. Well then, let's take a look into the life of Jeffery Zhang and his experiences in This American Life (Returning to 2001).

Missing one chapter

Currently my goal from the beginning started out with 1 chapter a week. After about two weeks I found my publishing speed was slower than my writing speed so I increased it to 2 chapters a day.

When I started, I never could have imagined getting this far, maybe another 20 chapter story with a ceiling of 50,000 words.

We're about 1.5 months in and this time I feel like I dropped the ball.

I'm trying to publish 2 chapters a day around 1000 words each. This time however, despite my best efforts I was only able to eke out one. I been maintaining a buffer of 2-3 days of stockpiled chapters. (~4-8 chapters prepared)

I even took a week off, but writing was slow.

At this rate I'm concerned that I'll have a backlog and start a negative spiral of being behind.

I know I'm not a strong writer and I don't operate well under stress. It's best for me to take a break, work on other projects, and then return. I don't have that ability to tap out 8,000 words in a day like the Chinese writers or some of the fanfiction writers either. This is especially worrying, considering I'm writing in the urban life genre.

If you couldn't tell, the last 10-25 chapters have been a bit difficult to write and even a bit all over the place. Trying to create new themes, drama, and exciting events is hard to come up with, particularly when it's required to be written on a daily basis. (*´ -`)

My plan for right now is to go and ask other people I know take a look. I'll try to swallow that feeling of dread when asking someone to read my story and give suggestions and feedback. Maybe that'll generate some ideas and get through that writers block.

So I'll be taking a short break for the weekend. For the next 2-3 days, I'll be publishing at a reduced pace (if at all).

At the very least, I just want to publish 1 decent length chapter.

Hopefully it'll give me time to relax and regain that motivation and inspiration to write. I've stared at the blank screen and went through a lot of ideas. I know that if I tried writing, I'd probably delete it and get frustrated.

So what I'm expecting is to work toward regaining a stockpile, I'll assess how it goes by Monday.

PS:

Considering creating an auxiliary chapter with this content. Then creating an entirely separate chapter that just says

Ask for 2 day off. / Ask for 2 day break.

"Writing burnout / writers block"

dunno.

the explanation is just really long to me.

Ask for leave / ask for 2 days off ...
