Chapter 46

The second nurse, who was the one attending to Pei Yueran sneered at her, "He's also out of your league! If you see his partner, you would know that you don't stand a chance. He's also so devoted to her."

The first nurse was not convinced, "It doesn't matter. Even if they are married, there's the option of divorce nowadays. Furthermore, devoted? What man is a hundred percent devoted these days? he has just not seen a temptation that's strong enough!"

Pei Yueran's attending nurse shook her head and wanted to say something, but a patient's relative came and called the first nurse away.

Their conversation ended there.

Li Chuanmo got to Pei Yueran's house about 10 minutes later, and he let himself in. The house was just the way they left it earlier, but he had not had time to admire it.

The interior design was tastefully done. Looking at the well arranged living room, it was obvious to him that Pei Yueran was a person that valued neatness and order.

Since he was in a hurry, he quickly went into the room he felt should be the master bedroom. His initial impression was almost overturned as he took in the state of her room.

Clothes were strewn everywhere, no doubt because she was trying to pick an outfit for their 'date'. His eyes darkened as he remembered that their date had been ruined, making them look more green than brown.

He worked quickly, picking up her clothes and putting them away in the closet. He found a small carry-on bag there, so he took it. He then went into her bathroom to pack a few things he thought she would need.

He also packed two towels, a pair of home slippers, cotton pajamas, socks, a pair of jeans and a blouse, and the book she left on her nightstand. On her vanity, he took a hairbrush, lotion and lip balm.

He absentmindedly wondered why her vanity had so few items. His ex-wife's vanity had always been full to bursting. At least, he didn't have to differentiate between a toner versus moisturizer or something of the sort.

He went back to her closet took the light cardigan he saw. She might need it, he reasoned. He also packed her phone charger. He left her laptop because he didn't want her to overwork herself while recovering.

Finally, he had to get her underwear. He apologized to her repeatedly in his mind as he selected three matching sets of underwear from her drawer and quickly dumped them in the bag, stuffing them deep down.

He felt like a school boy caught ogling his teacher.

Feeling like he had everything, he turned to leave her room when he saw a picture of her and a young boy, whom he assumed was her son. He took that too.

By the time he got to Pei Yueran's hospital room, he met the nurse checking on her. She was still sleeping. It was a VIP room, so it was private.

He thanked the nurse and sat down by her side. Since the doctor had said she couldn't eat anything yet, he had not ordered any food, even for himself. Looking at the time, it was almost midnight. He decided he could eat the next day.

He pulled the bed for visitors until it stood beside Pei Yueran's bed and he laid down on it facing her.

When the attending nurse came to change her infusion in the early hours of the morning, she met both of them asleep, Li Chuanmo holding her hand tightly even as he slept. She smiled.

There were still men that were hundred percent devoted to their women.

Fu Mengyao knew something had gone wrong. The man she paid to harm Pei Yueran told her that the job was done and asked for his balance. She gave it to him, but she was feeling uneasy.

She asked him if he confirmed that she was dead and if he avoided been seen. There was no reply. She fumed. This was the first time she was giving a job like this to him and she wasn't sure if he did it right. What if he implicated her?

She knew she was in trouble when there was a knock on her door a few hours later. It was the maid, saying her attention was needed downstairs.

When she got there, two policemen were waiting. One of them said, "Are you Miss Fu Mengyao?"

"Yes I am." She replied.

"You're under arrest for the attempted murder of Ms Pei Yueran. You have to come with us immediately."

Everyone was shocked. Her parents who were downstairs looked at her in disbelief. Her mother —Fu Yinuo— was overly stimulated and fainted. The maids were all whispering, while the butler tried to call the family doctor. Chaos reigned for a few minutes.

When Fu Mengyao heard what they said, blood rushed to her head. The first thing she realized was the phrase "attempted murder". does that mean that s**t did not die?

Then she realized they said she was under arrest. She panicked and started screaming, "It's not my fault, she deserves death. You can't arrest me, I'll call my lawyers!"

She kept screaming as they took her away.

Fu Minghao was confused, but he tried to calm down. His wife had fainted, so he was the only one that could make decisions. He contacted the company lawyers and told them what happened. They sent a lawyer to the police station.

By the time the family doctor came a while later, Fu Yinuo had already woken up. She was crying, wanting to go and see Fu Mengyao, but her husband held her back, telling her she needed to see the doctor.

The doctor sedated her. He told Fu Minghao that she was unstable emotionally and needed rest.

When the doctor left, Fu Minghao sat down beside his wife on the bed, his head in his hands.

The lawyer at the station had called to give him an assessment of the situation. It was his daughter that had paid an assassin to try and kill the very lady she was supposed to go and apologize to.

He knew his company was completely finished. Li Chuanmo, and even his parents would never let this go, but that aside, his daughter was being detained and might even have to go to prison for what she did.

He was also worried about his wife. How was she going to survive this?
