"Spineless, lily-livered weakling" was a good description for Han Lixian. She wondered how a military man like her grandfather gave birth to a coward like her father.
He had never once spoken up for or supported his family. He was always eager to please and had never rebutted his father and elder brother in his life.
Because of him, she and her mother were often looked down on by the Han family. No one ever took them seriously. It was only when she got engaged to Gao Tinghua that their status began to slowly rise.
Angry at her husband's timidity, Pan Yinli found her voice again, "I'm sorry Father, I didn't mean to be rude. But what I'm trying to say is that the company needs capable hands.
"Although my Jingse is a News station host, she is very talented and can be of great use to the company. Moreover, her husband to be is the heir to the Gaoyi group, so she would have good support." Pan Yinli finished proudly. Han Jingse's engagement to Gao Tinghua was the highlight of her life at present.
But instead of looking convinced, Han Jianfeng's expression became worse, "Lixian, see what a good wife you have married! She thinks she is so smart that she now challenges my decisions!
"The Gao family? So your plan is to have the company I have worked for all my life swallowed up by Gaoyi Group?"
Pan Yinli tried to refute, "No Father, that's not what I me—"
"KEEP QUIET!"
The effort Han Jianfeng expended in yelling this time made him cough violently. Han Likang quickly rushed to his side to calm him down, while Han Jingse's father kept apologizing.
He didn't say anything else, neither did he look at his wife. He was scared of his father, but he was scared of his wife too.
They had already discussed her idea at home and when he said it was not a good idea, she glared at him. She then said he should only watch on the side and not interfere, that she would handle everything.
But now, they were all in trouble. Han Lixian didn't need to look up to know that his daughter was probably glaring at him. He sighed. It was hard for him too!
After the coughing fit subsided, Han Jianfeng glared at members of the second house, "I don't want to hear any nonsense from you again. I have made my decision and that is final!"
When he stood up to leave, he signalled to Han Likang, who was holding on to him. He caught the signal and then cleared his throat, attracting everyone's attention.
"Please don't go yet, Father. I actually have an important announcement to make."
Everyone was curious. What announcement was there again? And why will the first house be announcing something instead of the patriarch? Even Liu Zhizhen and Han Zhiyi, her daughter looked at him in surprise.
Without further suspense, he dropped the bombshell, "I have found my other son."
There was an eerie silence for a few moments. Liu Zhizhen's face paled and her eyes turned red, but she said nothing, bowing her head to hide her emotions.
Pan Yinli as usual, jumped up a beat later, "Impossible! How come?"
"I will punish you with the family rules if you behave inappropriately one more time!" Han Jianfeng announced coldly.
Pan Yinli kept quiet immediately, though she was still fuming. Han Lixian looked genuinely happy for his brother, while Han Zhiyi's red eyes were fixed on her father.
Only Han Jingse noticed that her grandfather did not look shocked. He even had a small smile on his lips, as if he had known all along. The sly fox!
"Tell us Likang, how did this happen? When? And are you sure he's your son?"
"Just recently Father, I found him just recently. Yes, I'm sure he is the one."
Everyone present knew the story of how Han Likang's mistress suddenly showed up one morning on their doorstep with a boy, claiming he was his son. The scandal shocked the capital and kept tongues wagging for a while.
The Han family desperately denied it and threatened to sue the woman for defamation, so she disappeared. He didn't bother looking for her then because he told her that he already had his own family, he didn't want a child from her.
Some years later, the boy went to the house, looking for Han Likang. He said his mother had just died and that she told him to come to this house, that his father lived there.
Han Likang was on a business trip at the time, so he did not get to see the boy. The only person at home—Lin Zhizhen was so angry that she chased him far away and even released the family dogs on him. They never heard from him again.
But now, her husband was saying that the same boy had now been found? She didn't even know that he had been secretly looking for that bas***d.
It was the feeling of betrayal that clung to her throat like a tumor and made the news hard to swallow for Lin Zhizhen.
As if he felt that everyone should consider this good news, or maybe he didn't care at all, Han Jianfeng laughed loudly, "Good, good, good. This is wonderful. So where is the boy now? How soon can we see him?"
"He's a grown man now Father. He's outside. I told him to come and introduce himself to the family."
"Oh, tell him to come in quickly. Fortune has smiled on my Han family. This is a wonderful day!" Han Jianfeng said with barely concealed excitement.
The butler was sent to call him in, while every member of the family waited collectively with different emotions.
When the door opened for the second time, everyone present fixed their eyes on it.
A tall man in a grey suit stepped in, closing the door gently behind him. When he turned to face them, everyone stared in pleasant and mostly unpleasant surprise.
Even without a DNA test, it was obvious he shared the blood of the Han family. He had the same peach blossom eyes, straight nose and general bone structure. Even his hair had the exact light hue of the patriarch's hair.
The resemblance was uncanny.
But if Pei Yueran were here, she would have frozen in shock and disbelief. Because the man was someone that was incredibly familiar to her, someone that was once her life. The one that she was very sure had been buried six feet under in NanShan cemetery.
"Leifeng, greet the patriarch."
There we have it!!!
So honest feelings, who guessed this from the start? And who had no idea at all?
If you have read up to here, I want to say I'm so thankful for you!
