332—Leave It To Me

Han Leifeng didn't care about her threats, "Say whatever you like, but I have now informed you, just in case you say in the future that I went behind your back again."

That said, Han Leifeng walked out, leaving Pei Yueran behind. She got down on bended knees, panic rising in her heart.

He wanted to take her son!

The rational part of her wanted to fight, but it was fast losing the battle to the anxiety. All she knew was that she could not allow it.

Just as she was scrambling for her phone, a hand touched her shoulder, "Mom? Are you alright?"

Han Yichen's ever calm voice steadied her. Her son was here. No one would take him from her.

She managed a smile, "I'm okay Xiao Chen, I just needed a moment. Did you see him leave?"

Han Yichen nodded. He didn't add that he refused to allow him touch his head and didn't say a word in answer to his questions.

Pei Yueran stood up and arranged her jacket to hide her slightly shaking hands, "I'll be leaving now. My regards to Yuchen. See both of you soon."

Han Yichen nodded, "Will do. He's currently busy with his programming practice."

Pei Yueran nodded, then held out her arms. Han Yichen went closer and gave her a hug. By the side though, his fists were clenched.

They were living such happy lives. His mother had just gotten over her grief and found someone who loves and cares for her. Why did he have to show up now and cause so much chaos?

He didn't hear what the man said to her, but it was obvious it was something that could rile her up, else she would not be this disturbed.

"I love you Xiao Chen, you know this right?"

"Yes Mom, and I love you too, very much. Should I call your husband to come get you?"

Pei Yueran shook her head. He was even busier than she was these days. He had gone for a business meeting before Han Yichen's call came in, and in her haste, she forgot to leave him a message. Besides, she would rather manage on her own than disturb him this time.

"Take care of yourself, and if anything comes up, don't hesitate to call me, okay?"

Again, Han Yichen nodded. Anything to put her at ease.

Pei Yueran finally left. As she drove, her mind spun round and round to the point that she felt like she was about to go crazy. She kept conjuring various scenarios of how Han Leifeng could snatch her son, and what she could do to stop him.

It wasn't until she ran a red light and almost knocked down a pedestrian that she came back to her senses.

After apologizing profusely to the middle aged man, she parked the car and took a deep breath.

Then giving herself a pep talk, she actively tapped into her coping mechanism from before she met Li Chuanmo, which was to bury whatever problem was plaguing her deep down in her mind and fill her head with work and details.

She spent the next few minutes mentally going over her schedule for the next couple of days, which was packed so full that her attention was smoothly diverted.

However, the effect was short lasting. Instead of her usual steady focus, a bone deep feeling of tiredness rise up after a few minutes, and her head was beginning to throb.

She decided that she had to go home. She would text Li Chuanmo so that he would not go back to the office to pick her up and instead go home straight from his meeting venue.

By the time she got home, it was late afternoon. She responded to the butler's greetings without going into the details of why she came back earlier than was typical, but was surprised when he told her that Li Chuanmo was home.

Stranger still, he added, "Chairman Li seems to be in a strange mood."

Puzzled by what he meant by strange, she thanked him and went in search of Li Chuanmo. He was in the study, his back turned away from the door. He was holding something in his hands.

When he heard the door open, he spoke as he turned, "I said I don't want any—" His words stopped when he realized it was his wife.

Both of them sized each other up for a few moments before speaking simultaneously,

"What's wrong?" Pei Yueran asked with concern.

"Did something happen?" This was from Li Chuanmo.

Both of them shook their heads, then said, "You first."

Their synchronicity brought small smiles to their faces. Li Chuanmo held out his arms, "Come here," and Pei Yueran went gladly.

Both of them locked in a passionate embrace for a while. It was so strong that it was as though they were trying to meld with each other.

Feeling the steady and sturdy arms of her husband, Pei Yueran felt safe and at home. She no longer had to hide her panic and be strong by herself.

So when Li Chuanmo repeated his earlier question, her eyes turned red. Before long, she was telling him the events of the day, pouring out her fears and grievances.

As expected, Li Chuanmo's eyes darkened. Just because he left him in peace for two weeks, he thought his wife and son were easy to bully?

It seemed he was too carefree indeed.

For now, he focused on comforting his wife, "He won't be able to do anything, don't worry. Just leave it to me, I'll take care of it."

Pei Yueran nodded, sniffing. She wasn't the type to cry at the drop of a hat, but she had been feeling really emotional lately.

And she couldn't be blamed. The events of recent weeks had turned her world upside down.

Still, she could feel calm settling over her. She didn't know when, but at some point in time, she had shifted from dealing with problems all by herself, to sharing them with him and even waiting for him to solve them for her.

Pei Yueran didn't think it was a good thing, but that knowledge didn't stop her from doing it. She was too tired. She could not explain how reassuring it was to hear that cold voice say, "leave it to me."

"I mustn't get used to this," she said out loud.
