312—Ranran, It's Me

Li Chuanmo cut the call on him. His patience where Gao Tinghua was concerned had long run out.

"Are you sure you're feeling up to going back there? Should I tell Gao Tinghua to help you get your things?" He asked with concern.

Pei Yueran shook her head. "It's not a big deal. Besides, I could use the walk."

Nodding, he got out and opened the door for her. He supported her from the side, but seeing how she was limping, he could no longer bear it.

In one smooth motion, he lifted her into a princess carry and strode into the hotel.

The receptionists looked at each other before looking away. There was a lot of unusual traffic today, and the faces of the men were getting progressively colder. But they were not about to comment. The manager already came down to tell them not to interfere.

Both of them rode the elevator in silence, but when it dinged open, Pei Yueran spoke, "You can let me down now."

Li Chuanmo dropped her and she led him to the room. Seeing that Madam Jiu was no longer there, she felt relieved.

"Gao Tinghua must have called a doctor." Li Chuanmo surmised. "He's coming up here by the way. He should be here in a few minutes."

Pei Yueran nodded as she picked her purse and phone from the floor where they fell when her captor wanted to tie her hands.

She surveyed the room quickly, checking if there was something she had left behind. It was a subconscious habit of hers. The clothes she changed out of would be collected later by Madam Gao.

As they stepped out, they heard the sounds of footsteps muffled by the rug in the hallway.

"Elder Sister!"

Pei Yueran looked up to see Gao Tinghua approach in a hurry, followed by an equally tall man. She focused on the worry on Gao Tinghua's face and managed a thin smile.

She felt tired through and through. She couldn't wait to get home and sleep in Li Chuanmo's arms. She would lie in bed for one week straight!

"I'm fine. Everything is alright now." She said.

"I'm glad. Mother was very happy to hear that you're okay. I'm sure she's still crying right now."

Pei Yueran nodded. She could totally see Qiao Mingran doing that. "And my Mom?"

"She's fine. Mother said she's by her side already."

Pei Yueran sighed in relief. "Thank you for going through the trouble."

"It's no trouble at all." He hesitated, then, stepped aside to introduce Han Leifeng, who had stayed still behind him all the while. "Here is a friend of mine. He was with me when Mother told me you were missing, and he offered to come along and help."

Pei Yueran turned her attention to the nice young man who tried to help in spite of never meeting her before, then froze in shock.

This, this person was..... she couldn't believe it!

Although she had not seen that face in nine years, she had spent many nights and waking moments imprinting it into her mind, and even though this person standing in front of her looked older, they were unmistakably the same person.

But how? He was...dead!

"Ranran, it's me." Han Leifeng said in a soft whisper.

Li Chuanmo frowned at the look of shock he could see on his wife's face, but when he heard another man call her with such an intimate tone, his expression froze into something that signaled looming disaster.

"Le—Lei?" She asked uncertainly, sure she was just hallucinating. Maybe the stress was finally producing delusions in her brain.

But when he nodded, she staggered. The images around her began to swim as she fought to keep her balance.

Somebody wake her up from this dream. What was going on? He was really alive? She couldn't stay upright. She desperately needed to escape from this illusion.

Alarmed, Li Chuanmo held her waist as he called urgently, "Honey, stay with me."

Feeling his touch, Pei Yueran just let go of her every distressing thought and sank into unconsciousness.

At the instant her body sagged, Han Leifeng rushed to grab her, but Li Chuanmo flung his hand away ruthlessly. Lifting her in his arms, he moved to leave.

Han Leifeng stopped him, "Where are you going? I know a hospital nearby—"

Li Chuanmo finally spoke, his voice bringing to mind the image of solid sheets of ice, "It's none of your business. She's my wife, and I'll take care of her."

He had resumed walking away when from behind him, Han Leifeng said in exasperation, "The way you took care of her until she went missing? Stop being stubborn! You don't know your way around here. Do you want to put her in danger?"

Li Chuanmo clenched his right hand into a fist, but he couldn't deny his words. Still, his inborn arrogance made him grind out the words, "I have my ways. Besides, I definitely would not hand my wife over to a total stranger."

It was Han Leifeng's turn to feel like he had been punched in the gut. The woman in question was his, his wife. How did he become a total stranger?

He glared at Li Chuanmo, and the latter glared right back. If the eyes could shoot lasers, the hallway would have already become a disaster site, littered with gore and collapsed walls.

Gao Tinghua, who was watching the fight between the two formidable opponents quietly at first, stepped in at that moment, "I'll drive. There's no time to waste."

They were really trying to prove male dominance while his sister's life was in danger? He found their behavior absurd.

His voice successfully broke the stalemate, and Li Chuanmo continued his walk to the elevator. Han Leifeng hurried after them, saying he was coming along.

Li Chuanmo ignored him, but once the got into the car, he told Gao Tinghua to lock the doors and drive off, leaving a livid, cussing Han Leifeng behind.

Shaking his head, he did as he was told, musing at the fact that he—THE young master Gao—had been reduced to a mere errand boy slash driver.

They arrived at the hospital a few minutes later, and Li Chuanmo carried Pei Yueran out and to the emergency department. He had just laid her on a bed when Han Leifeng's car arrived.

"Get the doctor here, now." When Li Chuanmo's icy voice sounded, a little girl who was at the emergency department because she broke her arm, started crying all over again due to fear. Her mother consoled her before going to look for a nurse to change beds.

Even Gao Tinghua shivered. Could he not be so scary?!
