Pei Yueran glared fiercely at him before turning to the nurse and smiling embarrassedly, "No, no, it's fine. You came at the right time. It's time for my drugs, right?"

"Yes, Young Miss."

The nurse, carefully served her the drugs, watched her take them and asked if she had any complaints, all the while very aware of a cold gaze behind her. She couldn't wait to bolt from the room after her work was done.

"Chuan, you're such a bully! The poor nurse was so scared." Pei Yueran said with hot eyes after she left.

Li Chuanmo didn't take it to heart, getting up to rejoin her on the bed, "It's not my fault, I didn't do anything."

When she saw him come closer, she narrowed her eyes. "You, stop! Where do you think you're coming to?"

"Wife, that's unfair. I just want us to cultivate feelings." Li Chuanmo said. Even he had lost count of how many times he had played the pitiful card in one day, just to one-up the love of his life.

Just as Pei Yueran was thinking that what he said made sense, he had to add, "I won't do anything I promise, I'll only touch."

Pei Yueran: "..."

As if that was reassuring!

Director Zhou hummed a tune as she packed the rest of her luggage and did a once over to make sure she hadn't missed anything.

Her outfit for the wedding was being sponsored by the couple and it had been bought already, so she just needed to try it on for necessary adjustments, which would be handled immediately.

Just thinking about the wedding brought a smile to her lips. At last, her Ran'er would be settled with a man she loved.

She felt really happy for her daughter. It wasn't easy to get genuine love once in a person's lifetime, much less twice.

It brought memories of her husband to mind again. Pei Yuze was indeed her soulmate, the best man a woman could ever wish for. So much so, that that chapter of her life had been closed ever since he passed away.

"Yuze, our daughter would be getting married soon. And she chose really well, just like I did. I miss you so much," she said out loud, talking to herself.

Outside her bedroom, a gentle breeze brushed past, and although the windows were closed, the curtains still rustled a bit.

Just then, the door bell rang.

She dried the tears that had spilled out at some point and went to open the door. The visitor was Fang Bo. He had been sent by Li Chuanmo to come get her.

"Good day, Director. The Young Master asked me to come pick you up. Are you ready to go, Ma'am?" He greeted and asked politely.

Director Zhou smiled at him and ushered him in. "I'm almost ready. Come in and make yourself at home."

She served him a mug of steaming coffee and some snacks she had at home. Fang Bo accepted them and thanked her.

He sat in the living room eating, while Director Zhou made her way to the orphanage to pick up Qiaoyi. She had promised to take the little girl along to City M to "see Brother Yichen." Her small bag was packed already, and she took Director Zhou's hand easily.

In about half an hour, they were ready to leave. Fang Bo helped to carry all the luggage and loaded them into the car. They were soon on their way.

The destination was Pei Yueran's apartment, and they got there late in the afternoon. Since the sun usually sets faster in winter in City A, it was already getting dark when the car pulled into the parking lot.

Fang Bo carried the bags and led them to the elevator, pressing Pei Yueran's floor. All along, the little girl Qiaoyi didn't say anything, she just looked around.

Pei Yueran had been discharged from the hospital that morning, so she was at home to welcome her mother when the door bell rang.

"Mom, you're here." She said, throwing her arms around her. She was very happy to see her again.

"And my Ran'er has become a big baby." Director Zhou jokingly said, patting her back.

After they separated, she greeted Qiaoyi as well, rubbing her head, "How are you Qiaoyi?"

Qiaoyi still didn't talk much, but remembering that this was Brother Yichen's mother, she put in more effort and responded in a childish voice, "I'm fine Auntie. Hello."

Pei Yueran's heart tickled. Such a cute girl calling her Auntie gave her a beautiful feeling.

She thanked Fang Bo for his hard work and let him leave. She then settled her mother and Qiaoyi in the guest room. By the time dinner was ready, both of them had showered and changed into comfortable clothes.

That evening after dinner, mother and daughter sat down together to catch up. Pei Yueran didn't tell her mother about the recent incident, she only talked about her busy Li Chuanmo had been and how she finally finished up her work this week.

Director Zhou felt there was more to it than she was letting on, but she didn't want to press. Since her daughter looked radiant in spite of everything, she guessed that whatever happened wasn't too serious.

During a lull in the conversation, Director Zhou asked gently, "Ran'er, have you ever thought about looking for your birth parents? Would you have like to have them at this wedding?"

Surprised, Pei Yueran stared at her mother. "Mum, where did that come from? Did something happen?" Apart from a time in her teenage years when she asked, they had never spoken about it. Sometimes, she even forgot that she was supposed to have another set of parents elsewhere.

Director Zhou shook her head, "Nothing happened Ran'er. It just occurred to me that we never actually spoke about it seriously. I also haven't encouraged you to look for them before, so I thought I should ask you."

Pei Yueran leaned a bit to the side to touch her mother lightly before speaking, "Mum, I don't think there's a need. I'm fine having you and Dad as my parents. I also miss Dad, but it can't be helped.

"As for my birth parents, I haven't actually thought about looking for them. But maybe I'll consider that. And if it's that they didn't want me, that's fine as well. I have you and my new family. You all are enough for me."

Director Zhou was wiping tears again as she nodded, "Hearing that from you truly warns my heart Baobei, thank you."
