Chapter One

My name is Asira. It means 'morning beauty' in Japanese. Mummy told me, before Daddy passed away, and she started drinking. Before she started yelling about things that didn't happen and hitting me and my sister, Aiko.

The name Aiko is also Japanese, and means 'beloved one'. Me and my sister are both half-Japanese. Mummy is Japanese, but Daddy was British, so we know mostly English, but some Japanese too. No, I know some Japanese, Aiko didn't care to learn. We were never close, Aiko and I, but Daddy dying changed us, formed us into being the best of friends. But everything changed on the next year of school.
