Chapter 10

I puffed out a breath of air, completely overwhelmed as I pressed my back up against the wall before sliding down it. I grimaced in mild discomfort as the ill-fitting shorts dug into my skin once again. I finagled how I sat until I was able to find a somewhat-comfortable position. I closed my eyes and breathed deeply, allowing the peace and quiet to wash over my body and calm my racing nerves. The silence gave me a chance to do something I haven't done in quite a long time; think about my childhood. I had a handful of memories that weren't tainted by Ken and his hunger to torment me. I never understood what I did wrong that made him treat me the way he had or provoke his anger towards me, but I guess people like him didn't really need a reason to terrorize someone - they just did simply because they were able to.
