System

Zed was currently in the parking lot of the weapons store and on his way back to his car.

The weapons which Zed had purchased were of high quality. In the apocalypse, one would need to in a way level up their weapons through fighting with them. After killing hundreds of zombies a weapon should evolve into something stronger than it's previous form. This could mean that the weapon enhances either a person's traits such as strength and speed, or it evolves to have a special power like the ability to cut through metal or cause enemies to catch fire.

In the end, you would have to witness the power change yourself as there was no such thing as a system or actual levels, just gradual strength increase with the occasional ability gain.

[System has been fully activated]

Right as Zed was thinking about the concept of a system a voice popped up in his head. For a second he didn't understand where it had come from. After his brief moment of confusion, he realised that the sound had come from his head.

'Huh? What the fuck was that?' he thought to himself as he went back to unlocking his car.

Zed proceeded to get into his car with caution until he heard another sound within his head.

'Your objective has been completed, weapons found' said a calm and soothing voice of a girl from out of nowhere.

The voice of the girl continued, 'A new objective has been set. The new objective is to prepare necessities for the apocalypse.'

Zed sat in his car with a confused look upon his face. It was hard to believe but he wasn't dumb. He wasn't going to ignore the blatantly obvious fact that he had received a system. Actually, he had heard something similar when he had awoken back in his math class.

Zed decided to act on an impulse and began talking to the system in his head, 'System, what are you and what can you do?' Zed wasn't interested in how the said system got there, instead only wanting to know it's abilities.

A moment later the system replied to him in the same soothing voice 'Hello I am your system. In other words, I am an AI of sorts which has been placed inside your head. My use is to help you become strong in the apocalypse.'

Zed closed the door to his car and then placed the key into its ignition causing his Ford Falcon XB GT to roar. Not even a second later he pulled out from the car park and began heading home.

A/N: Ford Falcon XB GT is basically what Max from 'Mad Max' drives in the movies.

'I see, but I remember asking what you can do unless I've gone stupid in the head, ' he thought with annoyance. He only had three days to prepare and every second mattered.

'Sorry, the system can do many things ranging from organising user stats, levelling up and having a shop all the way to helping the user to evolve, ' the system's voice said apologetically.

'Hm, that's good... Show me my stats and give me a comparison to a level 1 undead, ' said Zed calmly as though he had completely forgotten about before. In truth, he just couldn't be bothered staying annoyed all the time.

Zed told the system to do this so that he could get an understanding of where he currently sat in comparison to an undead which he would soon be facing.

'Loading system stats now' said the voice as a pop-up menu appeared in the corner of Zeds eye.

Level 1 Undead:

Health: 43/43

Magic: 0/0

Strength: 7/7

Agility: 3/3

Intelligence: 2/2

Abilities:

Bite, scratch, infect

Zed (lvl1):

Health: 13/13

Magic: 5/5

Strength: 21/21

Agility: 38/38

Intelligence: 467/467

Learning Rate: 967/967

Abilities:

Swordsmanship, boxing, irregular learner, marksman, water Elementalist, etc

'Hm nice, now can you show me a description of the elements on this page?' Zed asked the system.

'Right away then, ' the voice replied. The system then pulled up a description and began reading them out aloud.

'Levels are the most basic part of the status screen. With every level, you get 10 attribute points which can be put into any of your stats. Additionally for every level gained you will receive one skill point which can be used to purchase a skill book in the shop. Abilities are as the name suggests, they give the user certain skills to use in and out of combat,' the system said with its usual blank tone.

The use of skill books wasn't uncommon as in the future dungeons would open and once defeated would reward such things as skill books.

'If my memory serves right, there should be a high-level dungeon in the middle of Staten Island, New York,' thought Zed. 'It wouldn't be a bad idea to try completing it and taking its dungeon core along with any other items I find.'

The voice of the system interrupted his thoughts as it continued its descriptions, 'Health is the amount of damage you can take before dying. The magic stat is for how much and how powerful you elemental powers are. These powers include water, fire, void, magma, death, life, etc. Next is Strength. Strength Affects how much damage you can inflict with physical attacks. Agility applies to how easily you can dodge, move with speed and attack with speed. Intelligence applies to both your mental capabilities as well as reflexes and the ability to remember fighting techniques. Finally, the learning rate stat applies to how fast you can master your skills, fighting techniques and mental processes.'

Zed now understood the basics of the status screen and no longer needed to have anything explained. Before he could tell the system to get rid of the status screen, it disappeared before his eyes. 'I guess if I will it, it happens, ' he concluded.

All this while he had been driving and had finally reached his house. He parked his car right outside his front door and got out.

It was now the time for gathering necessities such as food, water and a first aid kit. As Zed opened the door his parents greeted him. Zed continued his way to the kitchen, completely ignoring them. He wouldn't make the same mistakes as last time.

In the apocalypse, his parents had thrown him into a hoard of zombies while they escaped. Even after he kept them safe through the initial two months. It was really sad to see a person's true colours after the world went to absolute shit. He couldn't blame them, though that didn't mean he could forgive them.

Finally, he reached the kitchen and emptied his school bag onto the bench. He opened the cupboards and took every last can of food. He left nothing which he couldn't use in the future. He also took three water bottles and a knife and fork. Next, he would need to gather some camping gear and some armour from his room.
